Newbie please go gentle on me.

Washed bike again today don't ride it much in winter, hate the thought of what happens when all that salt starts to eat my pride and joy.

I do enjoy crawling around cleaning and polishing during winter, went out to garage today to wash cars and I thought I'll give the bike a quick dust over, eek :eek: not my exact words but corrosion.

Just down one side of the timming chain cover a crumbly line of bubbles has appeared, I have seen a couple of 12's with this problem but put those down to the hardy owner riding through winter and salt getting into surface damage.

Not a chance with my bike after every excursion it's washed, dried, lubed and stored in a nice dry garage, is this yet another one of those finish problems, had the fork cross brace issue with an 1150.

Has anyone else had this problem and how was it dealt with, my bike is 18 months old and I can't bear to think that it's rotting away beneath me, I don't want to part company with my bike as it gets an old fart very comfortably around the expanses of Lancs and North Yorks at a tidy lick and has proven its worth on a couple of highland jaunts.

Hi.
I just don't think they are making BMW bike's as well as they have done :rob
make's me sound like a old fart ;) ,but I think the finish is not what it used to be.
Chris {carcher2k }
is a mechanic for BMW and a few weeks ago he came to my house on a new R1200RT,demo bike....what a shock ,it was in a right state.lots of corrosion all over the place.
I ride all year round and clean my bike every few weeks,I gave here a good clean yesterday and it would be hard to find any rust on her.:nenau and she is 12 years old :clap

PS if you only in Colne,we are having a bit of a ride out in the morning ,Leaving McDonalds in Keighley at 10am,if your free pop along and meet some of the Lad's

18 months old and corrosion appearing.:eek:
Time for a trip to your dealer and say the magic word "warranty".:thumb2
BWM seem agreeable to that sort of problem.

Thanks for the info,bike looks great, my 1150 also had little rust when I sold it, maybe shouls have kept it a little longer, I'll be ringing the dealers on Tuesday and booking it in for them to have a butchers at the offending area.

Thanks for the invite, I'll make my way over to Keighley and make my introductions this morning, just have to hose myself down and give the bike a quick drink, then find Macdonalds.
