During a 600 mile trip in a day returning from Southern Normandy, I became acutely aware of numb and tingly fingers from vibrations through the handlebars. This in part could also have been down to my new gloves however I have just ordered these little puppies from the goog old US of A ;

A set of ROX anti vibration risers which as well as hopeully eliminating the vibes will mean that I can pull the bars back slightly to give a bit extra clearance with my new MRA screen:nenau

Anyone else tried these (please don't tell me they're crap as they cost a small fortune).

I get the vibrations too when cruising at 4000 rpm for a while. Seen other threads, on AdvRider IIRC, that talk about using lead shot or similar inside the bars to dampen the vibes. Change of gloves probably means the new ones have less padding so you can feel it.

Seen one guy on the Globeriders 800gs instruction dvd use it. he sees to rate it quite well
he did mention that you need to get extended cables though:blast

After much corresponance with Rox, it seems you can get over the problem of cable length by moving the levers in by 1/2" each side, which I was think of doing anyway to suit my 1 finger clutch and braking style (habit from my old motocross days). They also reckon that the non abs models are a bit more forgiving on the cables which mine is. If that doesn't work then I'm trying to find a good excuse to buy the wunderlich adjustable levers so that might just swing me decision.

Quick... somebody get a 800 bling self help group going :comfort:

I fitted the Touratech risers and the vibration was less. Theres a metal tube that sits within the rubbers that gets removed and not replaced and I expect this helps. Risers are a HUGE improvement offroad and still very comfortabe on road :thumb

You sir like me have an illness, I am sure it is buried deep within all GSers, the need to spend ridiculous amounts of our hard earned on bike trinkets that we really dont need, however the urge to buy outweighs any sensible reasoning for holding back.

I suspect I could have got away without abs, computer, alarm, panniers, handguards, topbox, scottoiler not to mention the new chain which I have just bought even though the original looks brand new after almost 8k. I now find myself eying screens and bashplates..

Please sign me up for the help group urgently:thumb

Another Thought on Tingly Fingers

Just fitted TKC80s to my F650GS (2008) and I am noticing more handlebar vibration and tingly fingers as a consequence (compared to stock Battlewings). Anyone else notice this difference? I am running the front fairly soft at 28-29psi.

I have ...

Anyone else tried these (please don't tell me they're crap as they cost a small fortune).

... a set of ROX risers on my 1150GSA, and they are the Mutz ! I was about to comment, 'but they're a b*****d to fit' but yours look to have been reengineered to eliminate that difficulty, enjoy :thumb2

tingle

I get the tingle as well with TT 20MM risers.

I had this with my 1200gs as well. I suspected that it was because of the risers bringing my hands slightly above my heart, therefore circulation is not as good in conjunction with the vibration from the bike.

I get that tingle* too, but after reading other threads, I'm not sure if it's the 4000rpm buzz or my stupidly thin armed Dainese leather jacket is simply too tight in the forearm region.

* tingle is a very mild word for what I experience which can be anything from a mild tingle or buzz to full on white skin numbness in the first finger and thumb followed by sheer agony that takes half an hour to clear. Strange thing is, I get off and get on my R850R and the problem is non-existent. Therefore, my jacket hasn't been put on eBay just yet.

That effect will soon go.

I don't find vibration a problem on the F650GS. Gripping the handlebars too tightly is one cause, so I try to keep a loose-ish grip and I have a cramp buster on the throttle side so I can hold the throttle in a variety of different ways.

My handguard are off the R1200GS which retain the standard bar end and are supposed to be less viby. The bike has had TKC80s since day 1 (now 22000 miles).

Tingly fingers

BMW boasted when they brought out the 1200 series the balance shaft fitted reduced the amplitude of the rocking couple vibration to 25% of what it was , but multiplied the frequency by a factor of 4.
Haven previously ridden an 1100, I could not perceive any apprecaible difference.
It would need twin balance shafts (1 above & 1 below crankshaft) to properly balance these engines. BMW have the 1 below, but didn't bother with the one above, so it continuses to shake.
Personally I find the little & ring fingers worst affected, so I just slide the hands out a little so that these fingers are "off" the bars, & the problems disappears after a few seconds.

Have had a TT windscreen on my 650 twin and due to helmet noise I decided to put on the small BM screen again. So far in two days riding the tingly fingers vibration seems to have gone  Wonder if the air spilling off the TT screen was hitting the BM handguards and that's what was causing my vibration.

Or is it just co-incidence :nenau

:thumb2 I do the same thing. Usually just lift these two off and press the crampbuster with the palm of my hand every once in a while and the problem is solved.

sadly i agree with genon. this is more than just a tingle, after an hours ride my fingers are numb and white, and stay white for about 20 minutes.
i never noticed it when i got the bike 5 months ago, and had no probs on a 1000m trip to scotland. i don't know whether it got worse now it got 5000m on on the clock, or if it's just my riding style.
i try to ride out of the "vibe zone". i keep my eye on the small writing on the brake res. when it's all blurry i change up/down or whatever.
if this prob doesn't go away, or can't be sorted i'll seriously have to consider getting shut.

so much for BM banging on about the extra con rod balancing act.

good bar end wieghts (i make mine out of stainless), correct fitting gloves, not too tight when on the bike, and doing some miles, (i finally stopped getting tingles after a few large runs out, ) does the trick usually,
my mate did this on a kawi meanstreak and went from 60 miles to a 200 mile limit straight away,

I used to get tingly/numb thumb/forefinger on the right hand, that seems to have cured itself. I'm now left with an ache/cramp in the right wrist and down the side of my hand to the little finger. I've fitted a Throttle Rocker to give the hand a bit of a rest but still doesnt help too much. I think i'm leaning forward and putting too much weight on the handle bars! Thinking of investing in some kind of throttle lock to allow me to rest the hand completely!

I had an achey wrist the other day. I ignored it and took some ibuprofen. The next day I couldn't move my fingers. By lunchtime my whole wrist had swollen up and I couldn't even press the mouse keys.

I went to the doc the same day and he was concerned enough to send me to A&E. I got x-rayed and in the end they reckoned it was tendonitis which had inflamed the carpal tunnel. I'm wondering if 10 hours a day on the computer at work plus my now harsh suspension after a recent service are to blame for this?

****ing jokes have been done to death thanks

Well...

I had the dubious pleasure of riding approximately 1050 miles in less than 24 hours a couple of weeks ago - average speed was quite unreasonable, fuel mileage was shite but no numb fingers for me... maybe keeping the motor over 7k is the answer! :toungincheek
