:bounce1 Hi all, I'm new here. I've just bought myself a Shoei multitec off ebay and it is coming with a tinted visor as well as the standard clear.

I have been using a tinted pinlock insert on my Raid 2 for a while now and have found it really useful (particularly riding East to work in the and West on the way home:cool:).

I am looking to use it in Europe and the UK but I'm not sure whether it's legal :augie.

Anyone in the know? I'd appreciate your comments

To be legal for road use in the U.K. a visor must be approved to either BS4110 or EC Regulation 22 Type 05 standard. The visor will be marked as such, if it's road legal.

Any visor that permits less than 50% light transmission is illegal.

Any mirrored or iridium tinted visors are illegal.

All multitec's come withe the tinted and clear visors... the cops use the tinted ones during the day .... that's a fact ;)

Got a dark tint one on my own Multitec... went all the way to Austria with that fitted :Motomartin

I have a full dark tint visor for my Arai.

It's legal everywhere except GB.

Having said that, it's never been commented upon and I can change it for the clear one in me tank bag in a minute.

An essential safety item on a sunny day :thumb

I got one of the gradulated tint visors for my Multitec (with clear pinlock) which I think is standard issue if you buy one in Europe. I found it a great compromise whatever the weather.

Very helpful to put a piece of tape over the top portion of the visor too, cuts out the sun.

Tip stolen from Bryn:thumb

Thanks for all of your advice. Helmet has gone back!

Hi and thanks for your replies folks.

As happens occasionally on ebay the helmet wasn't listed quite properly and it turned up with some of the polystyrene structure out of the sides helmet chopped out because autocom speakers had been fitted and removed.

I wasn't happy to be wearing a partially incomplete helmet and so contacted the seller. Full marks to the chap, he kindly refunded my money and postage.

I have now bought a brand new BMW system 5 from ebay :D

:blast once bitten and all that?!

Hope this one was described more accurately though!

Oh and I'm pretty sure that my dark tint visor for my Arai Viper is not 'road legal' in the UK, but by god is it essential?! I live where the sun never shines and I really only use my clear one at night or when it's severely overcast. Never had any hassle off the rozzers either...

Great success! Helmet is a perfect fit, more comfortable than the multitec and nice and quiet.

Took it out for 175 miles in the sun yesterday and was comfortable all day long.

Will be on the look out for tinted visor for the summer!
