I know it's a long while yet, but has anyone decided on which ferry?

I've looked meself and whether you go Cairnryan to Larne or Holyhead to Dublin there's about 400 road miles involved either way.

With the Cairnryan crossing most (240) of the miles are in Ireland and it's almost exactly the opposite using the Holyhead route.

Does it make sense to have the shorter miles in Ireland to get back to the ferry quick or is it better to go via Cairnryan for less miles after getting off the boat.

I haven't checked the respective prices...

less miles in Ireland would be best if one was to stay up most of the night before your homeward trek. [cough]
IE,
short dash to the ferry,ferry ride,rest,recovery,black coffee.
enter the UK refreshed for the journey home .

Yeah - yeah.....I suppose that is the sensible option... I just hate sitting on boats... I could always go to bed at a sensible time....

I'm probably going to head to Holyhead on the Thursday afternoon, spend a night dodging direct questions in Welsh and get the early ferry to Dublin on the Friday am.

Ive also noticed that the return is cheaper on the Dun LEEry TO Holyhead ferry on the Sunday .... will prolly just go home in one bite...

Sounds the best way: I have friends in Southport, so may ask if I can sleep on their floor and catch a ferry early-ish on Friday too...



EDIT: I take it all back: Southport's still 126 miles from Holyhead.....may have to dodge direct questions too...

What about booking Cairnryan - Larne on the way over and Dublin - Holyhead on the way back? The A5 to holyhead is a great way to kill the miles but a bit of a yawn! Although the tunnels are great!!

Days off booked so the Thursday to Holyhead or wherever is a go-er.

I can't go to the 3 peaks cos its the Buzzards birthday that weekend , but have had a pass out for the Hograost
