Does anyone know what solution BMW gave to this?? My GSA has been recalled to remove the system and sensors since last Jan and have been waiting ever since

I got a new GSA last month with tyre pressure control. It seems to work. I have not had a puncture so no warnings from it. But it does more or less match the pressure on a gauge.

I had not heard of any problems with it. As they are now selling bikes with it I assume any issues are sorted.

My main worry is that I am about to change the tyres and I hope the sensors still work after a tyre change.

I took delivery of my 3rd new 12 on Saturday, a 2007 model :D and it came with Tyre Pressure Control thingy, so they still seem to be selling it - or I've got an old bike :blast

With respect to changing tyres, the book says to make sure you tell the tyre fitter that the bike is fitted with the system. There is a marker on the rim alongside where the transmitter sits inside the tyre :flush

I believe that when TPS became available for bikes, it was fitted to alloys and spoke wheels, but BMW had a few issues with spoke wheels and with drew it until they had sorted it. It clearly has now been sorted and is available again for spoke wheels. If your dealer took it off your bike, if you had paid for it, maybe you should be asking if they can now refit with updated parts etc.:thumb

Hello there,
So it has been quite a while since the TPC system was introduced. Read some issues with it on the advrider forum like new wheels getting installed, not compatible with spoked wheels, not working/wrong measurements etc.
Can anyone share his experience with TPC ? Does it live up to the expectations, any issues ?

I prefer checking the pressure before the ride rather during, so it would only be used as a warning indicator. :D

I have TPC on my 57 plate ADV (spoked wheels of course) I use it fairly often. If I ever get that feel like the rear might be punctured It's easy as that to check whilst on the move rather than wondering. Every time so far it was just a bit of gravel in the road or something. Every time I've checked the pressures manually the TPS has been spot on!

Just another thing to go wrong and for bikers who can't be arsed to check their tyres and tyre pressures:blast

Thanks for the feedback. No need here guys to discuss weather someone is too lazy to check his TP. I recently had a F800ST and checked my pressure almost before every ride and fill them at home when needed. It is such a small effort that it becomes a habit. I still think it is worth it for the alarm. :D

this prevailing Feature Envy that you only seem to get from owners of older models is just plain weird. its an amusing form of sour grapes.

Almost sorry that I brought it up, especially since I faithfully check TP manually.
Somehow discussing new features automatically means you either cannot ride properly or you are lazy or etc. Very strange indeed.

its the stock response from an 1100/1150 owner who doesn't have the money to upgrade to a 1200 i think. very tedious.

He is merely expressing his opinion on RDC aka TPC aka those tyre pressure sensor/transmitter doodads.

BTW tyre pressure monitoring is going to be mandatory on all new cars within a few years in some countries. Probably on bikes too before very long.

It's never a question of money, but one of sanity and having an independent mind

I'm proud to own a 2005 non ABS Adv and a 1100GS because they're great bikes and I've had many opportunities to buy a 1200GS, often for less money

I could have bought a 2005 1200GS last Sat for £4995, a bargain.......... but I never considered it worthy of £4995

Some new model features are good............some not so good

Remember Servo assisted ABS brakes from BMW Motorrad..........where are they now??.........confined to history and the obsolete bin

Were they any good and how many older bikes now have a flawed braking system

But so many fall for the BMW marketing blurb.............thinking if they've got it, it must be good

Without question............without thinking it through

After warranty has finished............how good is it then?

thats great, and I agree with all you say. but how often (in this forum) do we get a question like

"hello there, I am about to buy a 1200 with FEATURE-X and FEATURE-Y, can anyone out there who has those two things tell me their experiences with them?"

cue a bunch of responses from people who don't have that model of bike, or feature, offering us their opinions on how we are crap riders for even considering buying it.

in between a couple of actual owners of 1200s with FEATURE-X and FEATURE-Y generally saying "yeah i have it, its great, just buy it".

its a bit weird, no?

Ok, think it is safe to conclude that the newer features like RDC and ASC will take their time to evolve to be considered as proven technology. For some owners, depending on the needs, it appearantly has it's benefits and others it doesn't.
RDC is being installed in other models by BMW too (was already in the manual of my F800ST without RDC in 2006), so I guess time will tell.
