Tire Pressure

Hmm cannot lay my hands on the manual at the moment, but need to know what the standard tire pressures should be on the r1100gs and what changes in pressure if any I should make when carrying a pillion. Pillion weighs about 10 stone.

Dont know about the 1100 but the 1150 is as follows-
solo-2.2 bar(31.3psi) front -2.5bar(35.5psi)rear
two up-2.5bar(35.5psi)front-2.7bar(38.4psi)rear
two up+luggage-2.5bar(35.3psi)front - 2.9bar(41.2psi)rear

I ride with max pressure as I always ride with luggage and a lot of the time with a pillion but a lot of it is down to personal preferance.

Thats straight out of the owners manual of a 2002 1150gs. where the oe fittment can be tourance,t66, and trailwings.If anyone is running Karoos or TCK 80 then it should be a bit lower. In all the bikes Ive owned I have not neccesaraly run them at manufacturers reccomended pressures.I make my own mind up and for the 1150 they are pretty much what I would choose.Mabye reducing it a 2-3psi in the bad weather.

My manual for 1100 GS states
solo front 2.2bar rear 2.5bar
2-Up Front 2.5bar rear 2.7bar
2-up plus luggage Front 2.5bar and Rear 2.9bar

Believe that is for Enduro's, it worked fine for me

Sterling Tyres carefully looked up pressures for my Tourances when i got them and advise
solo front 32psi rear 36psi
2-up front 36psi rear 39psi


which have also worked out fine.

Have now printed label with the tire pressures to affix to unside of pillion saddle. You would have thought that a car manaufacturer like BM would afix the details somwhere on the bike like they do on the car door jams.

Tyre Pressures

If you check your tyre pressures before and after a typical run they should vary(increase) by 10%. Any more and your initial pressures are too low and vice versa.
This also takes into account ambient temp. variations and riding style. It should give good grip/wear characteristics also.
BTW This is not my idea but a tip I picked up on the web, so it's got to be good;-)))
Suck it and see. It requires a bit of patience and application but will also allow a good look at tyre condition etc. Never a bad thing!

Michelin recommended 40 Rear and 36Front for my T66's on the 1100.

Funny that.... my manual says the same thing I thought maybe with yours being right hand drive and mine being left an' all that your's would have been different
