On the road, for now:-)
Hi there...........I will need a tyre change soon and am thinking about putting some sports tyres on my 11 to see what its like, I can only think it would be even more fun than on knobblies.
Any ideas what would be good, I suppose I would be restricted on sizes cos of the front wheel wouldn't I. :aidan:tarka:ukgser

My mate Dave put BT020's on his 1200GS for a trip to the Pyrenees and hated them, said it ruined the bike. He had them on his ZX12r and on a later blade so new and liked the tyres just didn't find sporty tyres suited the bike (or him and the bike?)

I stuck Dunlops on at the last change (dont remember the type, bikes in the garage and i'm not). Had Annakees on before and the bike was totally changed (obviously). Feedback is great for all weather on tarmac but it hasn't really been offroad since so I cant comment on how it would be. For forest trails its fun

old style tourance , or anakee are good for scratching , i can throw the 1100 around pretty well , but im after a bit of "on and off" road tires.

I never go off road.

I treat my bike as a 'road bike' it has none of the 'off road' bling that seems to be absolutely essential for the 'image' and so I see absolutely no point in using nobblie tyres if the bikes never going off tarmac.

Currently have 020's front and rear. and I like the way they behave in the wet and the dry - been excellent over the winter.

next time... who knows? but one thing is certain. NO WAY will I be using Tourances again... which; counter to the perceived wisdom - I think are at best just about 'adequate'. But in reality are more about 'looking the part'

maybe MEZ4's (which are supposed to work well with these bikes)

I suppose I would be restricted on sizes cos of the front wheel wouldn't I.

Fortunately the manufacturers are cottoning on to the fact that a lot of these bikes never go off road (despite what you read on here) and so are producing fitments to suit. So year on year the choices are widening.

motorbiker has a good point most gsers dont go off road and road orientated tires will suffice

i had tourences on mine when i bought the bike, i took them off to ride to the Black sea , because i thought they would have warn down to a minimum limit when i got back. for this reason i fitted a brand new set of anakees , they still had a good 6,7mm tread left after riding 4500 miles in 12 days..

i still plan to put the tourances back on in summer, just to get use out of them , still got 5mm tread left on.

as a previous post , i could throw the GS1100 around corners pretty well , and they coped fine..scrubbed to the very edge of tire  and didnt fall off:D

but im planning on playing in the dirt this year , y because i can:D so im after a good on off road tire that i can keep on most of the year, plus my daily commute to work is on dirty roads , so the best amount of grip in a tire is preferable.

to reiterate my other previous query, has anyone had a good road test on the "conti escape" tires on and off road?

not too bothered about deep fording and dirt up to my chest , just a bit of green laning:clap

To avoid yet another 47 million posts containing 47 million different opinions but essentially saying the same thing about tyres, all you need to do is a Forum Search or look in the Font Of Knowledge which was especially created for this purpose.

Not being funny - but that thread is now 5 years old. (apart from an addition about Anakees last year) and so horribly out of date and the only "road only" tyre it refers to is the 020 - which is, i think, harder to source - now replaced by the 021.

There are shed loads of threads about off road and dual purpose tyres on this site - but precious little about 100% road tyres.

So use all your up to date knowledge to get the Font or FAQ section updated. :thumb2

I don't have any.

I've only tried one tyre. (as I mentioned above). there are plenty others though and I'm just as interested as the OP to hear from people who have used them.

And so let the 'up to date knowledge' create itself.

Fit a pair of Conti Trail Attacks, you wont ever consider anything else for what your looking for and you will see 9000 miles out of a pair for normal road lunacy

mmm knoblies....me likey :beerjug:, will be getting a set soon due to a slow slow puncture i have at the moment

i've also read the font thread on tyres, it is an old thread for sure but i can also glean new bits of wisdom from threads like this

life's to good.......

do it :D

Knobblies {probably}

Well

...........Ive not made my mind up just yet but will probably stick to knobblies/semi knobblies as I do tend to come off of the straight and narrow when the opportunity arises. I am off to Holland and Normandy in May doing some D-day stuff, which last time caught me short........a kawasaki ZX7R's not much good on sandy beaches:augie
Hence jessie is now my girl who takes me from here to...................anywhere really. Ideally I would source a spare set of wheels so I could choose which tyres etc, for trackdays or touring, blah blah.

Thanks for all your advice.:aidan:camping:tarka

Sandy beaches are really great fun but there is lots of sand. ohh not good.

Sand gets everywhere and destroys what it touches. I know I've done in a few bikes on the sand.

Dont do it!! At least not to much anyway.:augie

Cheers
