TKC80 dreadful handling at speed

Kenny, when I had tkc,s on bertha I ran with 32 and 36 psi with no problems. I thing the anbswer lies elsewhwere.
I have a tape we used at the driving school showing a variety of bikes suffering weave at high speed. One was a 90s. They used tw riders, one a lightweight and the other a heavier guy. The lighter one always got weave while the other didnt. different tyres made little difference. some of the weave was dramatic and could only be controlled by the rider lying down on the tank and then slowing down. strapping a divers weight belt to the lighter ridser also eliminated the weave. As you are not in the heavyweight league I would suggest thgat you try this out. Get to the poiunt of the weave starting and lie down on the tank, see what happens. if it strops then try weighting up the bike, a passenger will do. If no weave then it is just your weight and you will probably have to either slow down or change tyres.
let me know if you would like a copy of the tape, on cd, its very interesting
Do I have to be naked when laying prone on the tank? :D

Only kidding, sounds good..I will give it a go...just miffed that I threw away a decent rear Conti Trail tyre ( goosed front ) to put these on:(
More experimants when it is dry:thumb2 Thanks for the info :)

P.S. I bet Bertha is well planted now :hide

Gone back to 30F 32R ( may try lower again but lost the will to live at the moment :D ) and I'll have to live with the 'wobbles' :rob Higher or lower pressures and lots of playing with the suspension doesn't make a h'penny worth of difference....it is just the tyres.

No more TKC's for this bike when they are worn out though !!!:rob

Makes you wonder if the TKC80's have been altered in some way... even the 800GS are having the same problems. http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=236941

From what used to be a great tyre for rallies etc...isn't so much these days :(

Then again, been hoolying down the back lanes on them and they are great for this type of riding:bounce1...just not motorways:eek:

Look  as well ( matches my James Bond image :augie )

I really wanted a set of these tyres(they do look cool) but if they are going to try to kill me i will probably opt for the metzler enduro.

I gave mine away to a good home in Spilsby I was so fed up with them. Planned to replace them with Metzler Enduros but other than getting a set from a well known gentleman from the West Country they are proving rather elusive................rumour has it my wheels are finally finished (I haven't physically seen them yet though) after TEN weeks! Borrowed a set from an ST meanwhile............better than nothing but they're not the same.

We'll see what tomorrow brings with eager anticipation!

I was deride, ridiculed and generally made to look a c**t for daring to say TKCs weren't the best tyres in the world. Seems like more people are sussing them out http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=236941

:dabone

Rob, I'm ashamed and embarrassed  I never meant to Deride, Ridicule or make you look like a c**t, or anything other than try to persuade you to give the TKC's another go with a different out look.

If I have brought on feelings of this nature I sincerely apologise. It was not meant. :bow:bow

Val,

It's all tongue in cheek.

I may beat you with that big stick just for the hell of it though :D

Me and Rob sorted it out behind the bikesheds at Verns yesterday :comfort

Still, not sure I'm liking these TKC's on my paralever ( great on all my other bikes ) ....but I'll give them another 100 miles to see if they shape up..then I'll bung them on here ( will only have done less than 300 miles by then ) for about £95.....but would need to be collected only They cost me £168 btw :tears
