TKC80 tyres and ABS

Since fitting TKC80 tyres to my R1150GS I've had a couple of occasions where the ABS has switched the front brake off under firm braking on the road. I put this down to the tyre tread flexing and the ABS treats this as a locked wheel.

When it happens the bike stops about a yard further on than where I want it to stop. Not a good thing to happen.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it best to switch the ABS off with TKC80 tyres fitted?

If you are braking hard enough to activate the ABS you'd probably be on your arse without it

Are you sure you aren't releasing pressure on the lever when you feel the ABS pulsing? The ABS will pull you up faster than you'll be able to do it manually if there is an unexpected loss of grip. You may end up a yard further on than you'd want but you are rubber side down!

TKCs are softer compound than Tourances so it's unlikely to be a lack of grip from them causing the issue unless you are trying to do stop pies in the wet?

Is this servo ABS? If so, I'm pretty sure brief loss of grip at the back (which is not regained by releasing the back brake) invokes the anti-stoppie behaviour that lets the front brakes off. I can get this e.g. braking downhill through a dip in the road surface without having to brake aggressively. That's on Tourances, no idea if TKCs would be different.

If you're breaking that hard on your TKC's you'll feck them...

TKC are old Skool making progress tyres, lots of observation and use the engine....

I didn't really think that I was breaking all that hard and it did surprise me.

With the TKC80 tyres fitted I will switch off the ABS. With 70mm spaces between knobbles on the tyre centre line it is not surprising that the front wheel locks up with firm braking.
