Hi all, perhaps asking the wrong people(preaching to converted and all that!)
But this will be my 1st GS, so a couple of things , anything to watch out for?(new bike) All those nooks and crannys, does it clean up well?! would you buy same bike again, thanks all, have 1 coming on friday this week need help!!! PS there are NO discounts ? is that right!

Hi,

This is my first GS also. Always ran Jap 4's before. Test rode the 1200GS back in March and placed my depoist there and then. Bike delivered mid September and really enjoying the bike so far. ( other than a brake squeal ). Find it much more enjoyable to ride in any weather. Unlike the Jap bikes which only came out with the sun.

Cleaning I find ok ( therapeutic ) is how I would describe it.

So hope you enjoy your BM.

I've had mine since October and found it to be excellent...cleaning hasn't really been a problem - I wash mine usually once a week when I do the car and it takes around 15-20 mins max and comes up great without any major effort...pic below is just after it was washed on Sunday...

Ian,
You'll no doubt doubt love the GS. I was 1 mile into a test ride and decided I was having one.
You'll find that BMW have made a massive error in not fitting a hugger as the crap that gets thrown from the rear wheel is outrageous. Check out the 1200 GS section for a remedy from one the the members. Motorad concepts made a hugger which Nippy Normans were selling (£200!) but they've withdrawn it through safety concerns. The front mudguard also requires a mudflap as crap gets lobbed onto the front of the engine. If cleaning is an issue, alloy while are obviously easier to keep clean.
Fuel guages seem erratic as you'll see another thread ref. a mod to address this. Range seems to vary from bike to bike, obviously depending on the type of riding / how hard the bike's ridden. I ran mine dry today to see what range I could get out of it and ran dry at 235 miles. The fuel guage read zero miles left at 175. I'll be sorting that out next if I can. The front screen rattles a bit but simply needs a little sparkies tape around the 2 pegs which it pivots on to quieten it down. The panels around the tank seem to drum a bit with engine vibration so I'll see if I can fit some sound deadening to them.
It may seem like all negative stuff but it's nothing really. I ride the thing at every opportunity.

Regards,

Very happy with mine so far. Motor, gearbox, handling and comfort are all superb. Had three Beemers before and had problems with all three but, so far this one has behaved perfectly. I haven't even suffered from any of noises, rattles or any niggles others have had. Cleaning is easy but, a little time consuming and it's well worth covering the bike with some sort of protective spray like ACF50 or Scotoiler.

Kind of moot at this point, eh? But since you asked, boy did you make a mistake! These things are pieces of CRAP! However, as you're new, I'd be willing to take that bit 'O' junk off your hands for, oh say, 100 Quid :hapybnce:

And they wonder why 1200 owners post in the 1200 section ...it's not cause you 1100 + 1150 boys are biased or anything....

Down in the technical section!

I think Fanum's idea is to keep the 1200 section for technical queries about the 1200, but try to integrate general discussion into the other forums.

thanks all, Nadeem, she sure cleans up well !did every one pay FULL price?

Baglux looks nice on that.....a lot less intrusive than on the 11xx's

:)
I was thinking that..........could be tempted myself, as I already have a baglux tankbag from my old bike. The colour match is good as well.
