To change oil or not?

You horrible horrible man, how dare you Diss the mighty fatherland with the mention of a "Japanese" motorcycle.

The issue isn't should you change it now?.....an extra 800 miles isn't going to make the slightest difference.
More importantly is should you change it.... and the answer is yes. Why pay someone else to do what is very satisfying and piece of piss to do.
And that's if the garage actually even does it and doesn't just give the filter a wipe.

Indeed they are. Though I must admit to being a little confused as to why the 5W30 suitable for VW was more expensive than the 5W30 suitable for Mercedes....

Agreed, therefore oil and filter ordered. Part of me didn’t want to compromise the full BMW history but then at 67k that’s now less important!

Avoid like the plague. Reports of the nut on the end rusting off etc. They also did a product recall earlier this year. Google K&N oil filter failure for more info. Stick with hi flo

Don't over-tighten the filter and a filter socket will have it off in no time. If it's been fitted by a gorilla you are on your own and it will get messy.
 
FWIW I just bought a genuine BMW oil filter from my local motorrad agent for a pre-tour service, it is now marked with both BMW and Mahle part numbers (unlike the old filters). Seventeen feckin' quid for an oil filter, I used to pay £9 ! (I would have gone elsewhere but haven't got time to faff about at present though I hate it when people take the piss with prices.)

I'll pre-order a few Mahle ones now as the price and packaging is the only difference.

I usually buy bulk oil from Costco, Chevron 10W40 semi-synth, 25 ltr drum for about £43 which does about 5 oil changes.

K&N have switched most, if not all their production to China. Mahle or Hiflo are a better option IMO.
