To Fat Foot or Not To Fat Foot?

I am looking for some small, helpful, sensible additions to my '08 GS and I've ssen a few of these fat-feet or fat foots or whatever the plural may be. Are they worth having if you park on hard ground for the majority of the time? When we go to the GP at Donington we have in the past had to park on grass and I've always just used a sidestand puck, (if I've remembered to take it with me).:blast

I saw in rugged road that their 'fatter foot' reduces how far the bike leans over whilst on the stand which could be a good thing if the bike's fully loaded, but does it retain the stability of the standard sidestand lean angle?

I've got the above mentioned Fat foot on my GSA. It is a great idea, and works well. Defo recommend it to anyone. I had to assist another Tosser to park his GSA on uneven, soft ground a few weekends ago. We had to look for a flat stone to to stop his bike sinking into the ground, whilst my bike was fine on its fatter foot.

+1:thumb works great

I did it. Here's a pic of my fat foot a.k.a. the sidestand extender. Got it from UK based company ([email protected]).

It works and you feel more secure in places where the underground is not perfect for parking.

It's not always that easy to find a beer can though... especially when you're on your own and you can't get off the bike without it falling over...

I've got the TT version (or Wunderlich - I forget) and I think they're a great idea. Makes you wonder why they don't design sidestands that way in the first place.

On a trip to the IoM a few years ago I helped to rescue a few bikes that were in danger of falling over. They were parked on a nice level tarmac car-park, but when the sun got onto the tarmac it melted just enough for the sidestands to punch through. One of the bikes was a brand new FJR 1300 with full luggage, belonged to one of the marshalls. That would have cost him a bit if it had keeled over... :rob

Shortly after my first offroading I bought a fatfoot, as my bike would sink into the mud without one whenever I tried to park it. Not sure if mine is TT or Wunderlich, but works well and fairly cheap.

Handy in the paddock at BSB/WSB as well, saves faffing around with empty cans or plastic sidestand jobs.

Looks like it's almost unanimous. :thumb2

Looks like I'll have to get one.

I have the fatter foot from RR – it works well on soft ground but one thing I have noticed is that you can catch the bottom of your trousers on it, which gets a bit annoying.

I only fit mine now when going camping, or when 2 up fully loaded where it helps with the lean.

why not just take the stand off and have a bigger plate welded on? far cheaper an looks standard, ,
then again, no "bling effect" then , is there?:augie

Good point Digger:thumb

I`ve lost 2 of the fat foot type things over the years because I`ve bashed them, not noticed they were loose and the`ve dissapeared up the feckin road.:blast

I`d like to say I`d ground them off on long fast left handers:augie

Whichever way you do it, a bigger foot is a plus:thumb

Fat Foot

An Ice Hockey puck also works. Drill & fix it to the side stand.

Anyone know of a 'fat foot' which also serves the purpose of stopping the bike from leaning over quite so much?

Or any suggestions for mocking something up to serve the purpose.

Cheers

Ian

Fatter foot from Rugged Roads?

We sell a Fatter Foot for the 2008 R1200GS at Rugged Roads which is 18mm in height so will reduce the lean on your bike a little. We don't make them too high as we don't want your bike falling the other way by being too upright.

If you've got any questions, or need any help drop me a PM.

Annette,

Many thanks, I shall be ordering one and a rear mudflap from your site in the very near future.

Ian.

You can get a wunderlich one which i believe adds about an inch in height. Pretty ugly though.
