Hi all,
I am in front of big dilemma
Recently the clutch started to slip, so I will need to take a bike apart. Dilemma is - to replace the engine or not. I have a spare engine from RT with ~30k. My bike has done 160k. Engine is fine, but I am thinking of replacing it preventively.
Is it a much more work to replace the engine if the transmission is off?
What would you do, replace or not? :nenau

I wouldn't replace.
Your engine 160 k should be in fine shape.

I'd definitely retain the existing engine - keep the RT engine for if you really need it.

Thx. I am leaning towards not replacing.
I will call you as soon as I will be back in Helsinki. Next few weeks I'll be in Riga, Latvia. If anybody is visiting Latvia in these few weeks, feel free to visit me :) Sauna, and :beerjug: guaranteed, and if you will be lucky, maybe even disassembled gs:D

So I decidet to replace clutch only, but with that I also have two options :)
1) Local workshop is offering to make ceramic clutch for ~100GBP (6 pads)
2) BMW dealer does not have a clutch in stock - I should order from motoworks. I am worried about terms,, because you never know how long will take shipping to Latvia :)

I have only week to get the clutch.

Phone Motorworks and find out - they regularly ship all over the world.

Ceramic clutches are quite snatchy on the uptake, and apparently need adjusting fairly soon (several k miles, but I'm not sure ) after fitting..

If you can get a 'proper' one, I'd do that, unless your use really warrants a ceramic one ....99.99% of people's riding doesn't.

Have a search on 'ceramic clutches' here......
