To tube or not to tube

Can you fit tube type tyres to tubeless rims without tubes?
I'm pretty sure you can fit tubes to a tubeless setup but can you do it the other way around?

You can fit them.......but they'll go down on you...ooh er

I went onto Pirelli and Conti web sites and asked can tubes go in their TL tyres for my bike and they both said YES all their TL can be used with tubes. TLO can only be tubeless.

Did not cover your first question though so don't know if TT can be used tubeless on suitable rims!
