Tobinator Adventure and R1100GS latest

Just curious but since the Givi screen mounts exactly the same way as the stock screen, is it possible to use it with your Tobinator?

Cheers.

Givi

Yep. There's quite a few people with standard R1150GSs with Givi, MRA and Wunderlich screens which have been Tobinated.

Hi all,

The 2nd cut prototypes for the Adventure and R1100GS are now complete. Details (with pictures) as usual are here for the Adventure and here for the R1100GS.

Ok - here's a pic of the Adventure so you dont have to click...

Any questions, post here or PM me.

standard 1100 screen

What's it like with the standar one and your feindish additions??

"Other Tim" - with the standard screen, you need to look at the user reviews here:

http://www.stopthebuffeting.com/UserFeedback.html

Re availability of the Adventure bits, I'm checking today (11th) on when I can get CNC machine time to have a new set of the triangular doo-dahs machined. The current ones are a bit too narrow. Probably early next week for the final prototype, then into testing before mass production at my factory in China.

I dont really have a factory in China - that was a joke.

A quick update. With the help of some friendly washers, I have fitted the slightly too narrow Adv Mk2 prototype model to my bike and done the morning commute up the A3. This has also enabled me to confirm the measurements required for the Mk3 prototype which will be machined up next week.

Initial results are very very good. Not that I'm blowing my own trumpet here of course, but it made a lot of difference - smooth air, no buffeting. Quite spooky. It actually makes the bike 20mph faster as you can ride faster and not have a sore head.

The positioning is, as usual, quite sensitive. With the screen a bit too upright, the buffeting is as bad or worse. With it tilted back just 1 inch, it is vastly better.

Another thing I've found is that with the Tobinator risers in their lowest position, the sides of the Adv screen block access to the lower Tobinator fixing bolts. This means adjustment is a bit more complicated, as you need to remove the screen from the top adjusters (2 mins), then adjust the bottom of the Tobinator risers to where you want them to be, then refit the screen. All in all, this takes 5-6 mins, versus a couple of mins for the standard version.

The whole screen structure is very rigid as well. Some vigorous pulling and pushing doesn't dislodge the Tobinators or move the screen at all.

So, all looking good so far. I'll keep you posted.

........have read the feedback and it sounds a great bit of kit do we have an eta for the 1100 and a price....
cheers:D

Hi montydog - I've got a couple of Mk2 prototype R1100GS sets sitting on my bench at the moment, as seen in the pics on my site.

One set is destined for brave and committed tester Phil, whose bike has been the R1100GS testbed to date. The other is destined for a chap on the AdvRider site who will test them in the USA.

Once I get back an OK from both that the things fit OK, dont fly off and lacerate small children etc, then I'll get the first batch made up and ready for sale.

I'm making an educated guess at 2-3 weeks.

Note that, in a move destined to increase the price of second hand R1150GS screens, you'll need an R1150GS screen as well.

Hi Tobers,

Have you got a set for the GSA ready yet? If so, I could let the Gecko bring it from Princetown for me. I would like them anodized black.

Could you be tricked into trading it for an excellent light bar maybe? ;-)

I've booked the channel tunnel so if you want I can bring em back for you - also anyone need any light bars or ooil cooler guards I can bring em to Princetown too....for a small consideration

Well, I'm looking at three sets of Adv Tobinator special bits at the moment. Oooh they look lovely - the Adv extensions are made from some bizarre plastic which can be machined like alloy, but is lighter and already black i.e. no anodising needed. I'll remember the name of it sometime soon.

One is on my bike. One is destined for Charly Batty as payment for the Adv screen I have borrowed for testing, and the other is for the Princetown raffle is the winner has an Adv.

This week, I'll be getting another 10 sets made up, hopefully in time for Pricnetown. I'll also be bringing 10 R1150GS std and 10 R1100GS sets with me, all in black.

In the meantime, I need to source the correct fastening bolts & bits for the Adv, put pics up on my web site, write new instructions etc etc....and I have to be in Germany half the bloody week.

So, see y'all at Princetown then.

OK - just to show that I am really getting on with things and not just arsing about, here's pics of the final Adventure mounts. Note that it is fitted with Mk3 Tobinator risers in alloy as the Mk4s are being machined at the moment.

Just been for a test ride. You aint getting these off my bike - no way. I'll have to buy Mr Batty a new screen cos I want to keep this one.....

Hi Tobers,

If the Adventure Tobinators are ready for Princetown, I'll probably be buying a set from you. I'm currently not using my screen, as my new helmet vibrates sooo badly with it in place, I've had to remove it.

If your Tobinators are ready and you'll definately be taking some along, could you please let us know. If they do arrive in time, I'll re-fit my screen and suffer the consequences on the way down. Hopefully I'll be all sorted for the ride back  ... Cheers

I'm 90% sure that the Adv Tobinators will be there at Princetown. I'm only having 10 sets made up as I want to get some real user feedback to be sure that they work as they should before getting a whole load done. They will only be ready on Friday afternoon so its pretty tight as I have to also make sure that all the fittings (bolts etc) fit properly, pack things nicely etc.

I've got a "waiting list" of 8 guinea pigs (oops, customers) already for those 10 units, so 2 theoretically spare down at Princetown.

I'll also be offering free fitting and advanced positioning consultation if enough people buy me beer.

I'll be there Saturday lunchtime with CecilTheCat. I'll leave my helmet and body armour on in anticipation of the rush....

Amazingly, everything has come together and I'll have 10 Adventure Tobinator sets with me in Princetown.

I picked up the first production batch today. They look bloody awesome.

Bring it on...

Please make sure you keep an Adventure set aside for me Tobers, Gecko will get it for me in Princetown.
Cheers,
Michel
