Tobinator settings? Help!!

Here is a pic of my current Tobinator settings:

I'm 6'3" and these settings seem to be good upto 60mph. After that the noise gets worse and worse. I'm struggling to work out whether the screen needs to be further away, nearer, steeper, shallower, bigger gap underneath or less!!
So.... before I head off to Europe later in the summer I'm keen to get the settings spot on. any tall GSers with suitable settings I could try?

If I were you I wouldn't worry about adjusting the settings just yet but help that person who has just been knocked over by the red car.

Go for a ride with a couple of Allen keys.
Make a change to the angle/height,then ride again to see if it makes a difference.
Repeat until you find the sweet spot as it varies from rider to rider.
You are trying to balance the airflow either side of the screen.

While you're out,buy a proper BWM oil filter as it comes with crush washers and use SAE 15/50 oil API SF/SG onwards and SAE80 or 90 gear oil for both gearbox and bevel box.Make sure it's GL5 spec.

I found the Tobinators cut the buffeting (as advertized) but not the noise whatever the settings, and I'm not even six foot tall. I eventually put the big Aeroflow screen on from my old 1100 which is better but still need ear plugs for long or fast runs really.

Hmmm, I'd be inclined to agree with you there Slalom, the buffeting is significantly reduced, but having had a transalp and been reduced to cutting the screen down to 3 inches (yes 3!) I expect the 'screen roar' is just going to have to be something I live with. Ahhhhh Tinnitus again, yummy.

I tried to find the elusive 'sweet spot' for ages. In the end I took them off and left them in the garage.

Long story short but I refitted them to the standard screen so that the arms were vertical with the screen on the mid tilt setting as high up the tobinator arms as possible. I then fitted a Touratech screen extension to the top of the original screen and that gave me the best windscreen setup I ever managed to find on my old GS

Ahhhhh Tinnitus again, yummy.

Tinnitus isn't much fun if you've got it bad. Use ear plugs, I strongly recommend Ultimate Ear. No connection except as a very satisfied customer using their in ear monitors. Great protection and great sound quality as well.

I too am 6' 3" and struggled to find the sweet spot in fact I still haven't found it after a couple of years. The closest I came was having the screen almost vertical but I found I was having to look through it and had the top in my line of vision which is totally impractical if not dangerous. The next closest I came was at a steeper angle, no buffeting and still air around my head but the air came under the screen and hit me in the chest.

I would suggest you put it as high and forward as you can get it and work from there tilting it slightly towards you and forward at the same time in small increments.

At one time I gave up and took them off, I couldn't believe the wind blast on the first ride after. It was only then that I truely appreciated them and put them back on. I think at our height it is nigh on impossible to get it perfect but I wouldn't be without them now.

I am 6 foot 4 and find the best position for the standard screen as high as possible on the torbonators with the screen in a forward vertical position, its also good for keeping the bugs splats off me in that position.

aha - Some new thinking. The 'tall and vertical' approach seems to contradict my instincts but I'm game for anything. I hope to get out tomorrow night for a ride so will experiment with the trusty allen keys then and report back....

I am with Motogp on this one. I am 6ft 5 and have my screen as far forward and as near to vertical.

with the arms vertical and the screen as steep to vertical as possible the noise was not worse (although the pressure on the ears was slightly worse) but the wind blowing on my chest was increased - presumably due to the larger gap above the beak.
So, Ahebron, when you say as far forward as possible - do you mean with the arms pointing forwards too? (ie beyond vertical if you like).
