The reason i ask is i have had an 1150 and am also thinking of getting a 1200 and hope the handling is as good if not better thanks.

Hi Mick.

I had exactly the same observations after I sold my GS1150 Adv and went to the GSA1200. CW had the thing right behind their door in the salesroom and once I saw it, it was love at first sight. That was 3 years ago and although CWs have tried to lure me away towards a newer one (in pale daffodil yellow as I call it !!), I am pretty much sticking with the 1200GSA in Magma red (best colour).

Hope you're keeping well ...... I think it's 3 years since was last spoke down there at Dorchester and I think you were waiting for your 1150 to be delivered back out of Wally's hands !

CW will keep you right ...... wait for that watercooled thingy in 2013 .... that'll put the cat among the pigeons.

ps: Keep it well protected in winter .... the alloy is not as sound as the 1150.

Picked the bike...

up on Saturday...have covered just over 300 miles since and have a couple of queries......

1. Is it normal for the fuel gauge to stay at full with no movement then suddenly drop down to halfway...instead of a gradual decrease like my 1150 would do.

2. The bike came with a set of panniers. This afternoon in a bit of rain I found the top box leaks. Do they normally leak or is there a specific part that generally lets in water i.e. lid seal, area round the hinges or something like that.

Am beginning to enjoy this bike more than I thought I would....

....and finally need some wally flaps. Have had a look at some Wunderlich ones, they are nice but expensive, as to Nippy Normans, everytime I look at the product pictures on their web site it strikes me that someone started to design them then gave up halfway...they look more like an after after thought. So any other suppliers people know off.....

2. Yes but I haven't notice that in a 'bit' of rain. One of my side panniers lets water in when stood in rain - but I've had to rebuild it once after a bit of a thrashing

The kit came with two lengths of bolts and a spacers, the longest bolts are to short and you need a spacer twice the lenght of the one supplied.

The bike, 1200GS, has Hepco and Becker engine bars fitted. Has anybody out there have them fitted with this configuration, if so did you have to provide extra bolts and spacers etc, being a tight git not in the habit of paying for kit to have to buy extra stuff to get it to work.....yes I know why do I own a BMW GS.....

Don't want to go back to Nippy Normans for a refund until I am certain I am not being a bit on the dumb side......

i put a set on my 05 1200 and made longer spacers,i bought a length of alloy rod from B & Q and cut it to correct size

Thanks for that Ash, looks like I will have to spend a bit of cash...... Had Wunderlich ones on my 1150GS and they were brilliant.....seems as if only Nippy Norman makes them for the 1200....

Anybody....

own a 1200GS 2004 model who live in Hampshire?

Would like to compare my bike to yours with engine running. Not sure if the noises I get at tickover are normal or do I have a problem. As this is my first 1200 so I have no past experience to compare it with.

What it's doing is sits at 1100 RPM then it will suddenly judder with a rumble then carry on normally, it worse when its cold. When out and about it responds to throttle ok. Would like to sort this out before the 3 month warranty that came with the bike comes to and end. Don't think I have been sold a duff bike as dealer was a BMW dealer with a good reputation.

they do shudder slightly when ticking over. worse when cold.

shouldn't be too bad though. maybe one of the stepper motors is a bit sticky?

Hi Mick.

I would still keep her well coated in anti-corrosion stuff during the winter/salty months. I hope they won'tmind me saying, but both Darren (now parted) and Wall used to remind me regularly to apply the magic pink solution (ACF50) to all exposed alloy on the 1200.

I even made a point of cleaning the underside where there was alloy before the real winter kicked in, giving it a few coats of really good quality wax, and then keeping it well coated with ACF. And it seems to have worked.

The old GSA1150 I could spray in neat salt and she never showed any sign of rust/white oxide and that was before I discovered ACF50 .... doubles as a nice moisturiser too I hear

Ok.....

had the bike for coming up to 4 weeks, have covered just over 2000 miles, the more I ride the more I like it.

Just have one problem which has perplexed me.... when out riding I enjoy nodding to other riders not matter what they ride, when on my 1150 about 90% would return the nod, wave etc....but have found since riding the 1200 90% don't return the nod etc....so come on you 1200 riders what have you done to the riding community these past few years........ AND it's the 1200 riders who are the worst, you know this nose in the air........

And to those who have a go at riders who nod cos your to busy to do it....sod off..... I don't care in the least if you don't nod....am just curious.....
