I want an off road tourer so I looked/tried the following.

2013 BMW GS 1200 Adventurer
2013 BMW GS 1200
Honda Crosstourer
2013 Triumph Explorer
2013 KTM Adventurer

My opinion from a complete unbiased 5ft 10" point of view.

2013 BMW GS 1200 Adventurer:- Rode Indestructible, Nice easy to ride but dated.
2013 BMW GS 1200:- Rode Indestructible, Nice easier to ride than the GS A and up to date.
Honda Crosstourer:- Only Looked and walked away.
2013 Triumph Explorer:- Only Looked, liked, but closer look thought it was too plastic and vulnerable.
2013 KTM Adventurer:- Only Looked, too tall for my little legs

Result = 2013 BMW GS 1200 on order :clap

Hi Andrew and welcome along....

I've also got 'little leg syndrome' :D

GSA would be a bit of a handful for me too.... and the new GS is a bit of a looker :beerjug:

One thing... get off to a good start , and call it a 1200 GS, not a GS 1200 :rob

:blush Noted :thumb The sales guy called it the word (that shall not be named) this is why I simply repeated him.

From now on it will be a 1200 GS :thumb2

You've made the best choice, congratulations :thumby::beerjug:

There is a hell of a lot of plastic on the new BMW, the main reason I don't like it.

I am sure it is a great bike though.

"Indestructible"

Methinks you have been reading too many BMW brochures. The reality check will follow

The reality will soon appear, after the novelty has worn off perhaps

Have you had a BMW before?

If not, you're in for a few treats

Indestructible. No, not for a time old bean.

A month old bike: http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=334155

Don't be under any illusions, they will need a bit of care if you want them looking pristine down the line, don't believe sales hype. Wake up and smell the coffee (not what comes from the Gaggia at the dealer..) :)

That said, enjoy your new steed :thumb2

Not bothered to be honest :thumb Its got 2 years warranty, so it will be going back whenever I find anything wrong and that goes for corrosion issues. At the end of the two years I will swap it in for another if I want to stay with the brand :)

My own brief was, would I take it around a motorcross track without fear of dropping it? Three came up with a yes, the two BMW's and the KTM. This is why I stated they were indestructible, clearly this was a loose comment and was not to be taken literally  The KTM is too big so end of that discussion.

I did not go for the Triumph because I thought it was vulnerable, the Rad is exposed. This is why I stated it was too 'plastic' Drop one on a motorcross track and you will be in for a big bill and a long push back to the pits.

I am no way having a dig at any of the bikes, I was simply stating what I discovered yesterday and made comments referring to my own requirements.

Looks wise I think the Triumph wins hands down.

Oh just for the record no I wont be racing it on a motorcross track I have a KTM 350 XCF for that.

Good for you don't listen to those doom mongers!

Hardly doom mongers, I wish the new chappy good health to enjoy his new bike. Just pointing out that it would need care, I certainly wasn't trying to piss on his chips.

Now, what he initially said was 'Indestructible'. He then changed that to be 'Under Warranty', and then since added even more clarity. So absolutely fair enough.

Enjoy your bike Andrew :thumb
