I was only 5 miles in to today's ride when I touched the screen for the second time to swap one of the 4 trip readings.

And the bugger just jumped off the cradle. Down on to the tank. My feeble attempt to grab it got nowhere and it disappeared off the RHS.

Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!

Pulse rate jumped.

Luckily on a quiet country road at low speed so stopped quickly.

Got off the bike and there it was on the road about 25 yards behind.

Luckily. Very luckily I think, it was still in one piece and working, 'cos I'm a long way from home and need it for a few more days.

From day 1 I've never been happy with the care and force needed to mount the ST to the OEM bracket.

I guess I just slipped up today. Have been using it happily for about 7K miles.

Previous devices, 550, 660, NAV6 were all easier - more reassuring - to mount.

I find the car stick on mount requires far less force to mount the XT. But that's not gonna fall far.

Every time I click mine in, I give it a wiggle and a tug. Just to make sure.

Hello
The 3D print protector of Etsy have a lanyard just hook it around a suitable nut or crany

Hi, I’ve done this with glue and plastic block, then small diameter chord, then it’s connected around suitable point to act as fail safe
INBOC

Updated

The chord came from a go pro kit I had, the plastic block was a small Ty rap style, will get spec for the adhesive and add that on here so has to guide what spec to bond was used

Used this if helps as a guide for glue specs

Ditto, I’ve used mine off-road also on many trips and thankfully to date we’ve never parted company. 👍

Oh, I’ve done the “wriggle” test many times for many rides and many miles.

But today I fucked up.

Obviously.

Thank you for the suggestions above. I’ll look into them to try and make the XT idiot proof.

(I still think it’s a shit mount)

This is what I use on my 340 LM , again I never trusted the “ click”. I just twist the cord around the garmin ram mount. My cord is actually a camera leash / lead.

As I'm using the standard mount I may simply bond an eyelet to the XT casing as most of it remains exposed when mounted.

Then attach a lanyard to hold on to it if it jumps out of the cradle.

Looking back, with a chuckle, my right hand "almost" caught it as it landed on the tank before escaping.
