Just got a tomtom 2 , with uk only mapping.
I am looking for european mapping, is there a site where I can download these maps ? or does anyone have a spare !

Bob,

This link should take you to the map update section on the TomTom website.

Note that you will probably have to get a larger SD card than the original one supplied with your Rider 2, and also you have to download and use TT Home software (available via their website) in order to get the map updates. Don't get caught out by their new(ish) map update subscription service, as that only applies to the map currently installed on your Rider 2.

Hope this helps

As said before, you will need TomTom HOME which is free and will automatically install when you plug in your device. An alternative to this is to download it from http://www.tomtom.com/services/service.php?id=16

Once you have done that you gonna need to make a backup of your existing card to the PC using the Backup option in HOME. Then disconnect your device, swap cards (ideally for a 2Gb), and reconnect to your computer.

This time use the Restore option instead of the Backup.

Once you have completed these steps your in a position to buy your new map. Press the "update maps traffic voice etc" button and then "maps" and select your mapping.

Its currently £40 for western europe, and £50 for the whole of europe (just without greece). All maps are temporarily discounted so I would get in while the irons hot. :)

Bob,

I'd certainly agree with TomTom GS Rider about making a backup of your current card, but having been bitten by the poor implementation of TT Home backup and restore features, I would always simply use Windows Explorer (or your equivalent if you use a different OS) and make a backup copy of your current card onto your computer. Then put your new 2GB card (which is big enough, plus the Rider has problems with some 4GB cards) into the Rider, and copy your current card contents onto the new card. Then you can use Home for the new map update.

HTH
