Tom Tom Go or Garmin Quest

Advice needed fairly urgently here. I'm in the market for a reasonably priced GPS and have more or less decided on a Garmin Quest. The thing is, I was in Comet and Curry's and saw the Tom Tom Go which I was told by staff in both stores, could not be adapted for a motor bike. While on line moments ago checking out Ram mounts for the Quest, I see that they also do a bike mount for the Tom Tom Go.

Can ayone enlighten me and which should I go for. I will be using the GPS for Euro trips as well as trips around Scotland and for work in various cities (mostly Scottish).

Neither

Go for the 2610. Bigger screen, easier to use, less menu scrolling to do. Much easier to locate places on the map, and easier to do 'finds' whilst on the move.

I thought Rider was closer to the 2610 in terms of price and performance. The Quest is considerably cheaper without that much of a loss in terms of features...touch screen

Just rode 1,800 miles around the coast of Ireland and the Quest was faultless. Very happy with my purchase.

Ronno, there may be a guy coming on the run on Sunday, Des Cox, who has a 2610 and if we are meeting Grizzly he has the Quest it might be worthwhile hanging off to compare them.

TomTomGo (RAM-B-202-TO1) or Quest (RAM-HOL-GA15) - yes they can be mounted - though the "high Street 'xperts" won't know how. I am still amazed when these 'locals' sell something to someone and then send them off to gps warehouse or alike, when the user has difficulties, I guess this may be a pattern being repeated elsewhere.

IMHO - "if" my bike, my money, my choice - it would be Quest, RAM Mount & cradle + QPAC (price - will get change from £400 at gps warehouse) and I would still echo the reasons given by others.

Thanks for the input boys. I'm going to hold off meantime until 1. I see the lads on Sunday for comparisons and
2. the Rider is on sale.

The last thing I want to do is to spend say £400 on the Quest and all the extras and then find that for £100 more, I could get a far superior bit of kit. (not that I'm saying it will be far superior to the Quest!)

Quest experience

Bought a Quest just before we went on hols. First experience of GPS and a convert.
1. The RAM Quest mount does not power the unit, this may not be a problem as it should last a day. Garmin say 20hrs but on what level of backlight?
2. More important than that you need voice instruction, especially in cities like London, so you look where you are going. The Ram Quest mount does not have an audio output.
Therefore I use the Garmin motorbike mount connected to RAM arm and mount. In all circa £400.
I believe RAM now have an additional part that will power the Quest but it makes the fitting deeper.

For audio you then need an earpiece with 3.5mm plug. I have put it through my autocom.
Yes the larger unit with touch screen would of been nice but I wasn't prepared to pay almost an extra £200! Quest input is ok and you can always use the PC if you are at home for route planning and managing your waypoints.

Looked at the Tom Tom Ride but there is no confirmation that you can put it through an Autocom. No 3.5mm socket on teh unit. They use bluetooth to an ear piece, uncomfortable under the helmet? Also they have promised a release for the last few months and haven't delivered. Last of all do you really want to use the first Ride units? The Quest has been out for a little while and has had several software upgrades. Quest also comes with a car mount as standard, full maps of Europe and plenty of memory. I have all the UK loaded at a detail level and still have over 100MB out of 250 free.
