My Garmin 2720 certainly worked fine in Eire, it actually had more small roads on than expected and found every hotel that I wanted to stay at.

When riding the 'Ring of Beara' it even recognised it as such on the display.

i know Garmin has no problems as they use navteq mapping but Tom Tom use Tele-atlas and Im not sure what their coverage of Ireland both North and South is I'm lead to believe its non existent

Look here , no mention of Ireland. I think you'd be wasting your money buying a Rider in Ireland. The Northern Ireland coverage is supposed to be crap as well, just large main roads.
