I think both of these use the TomTom cradle, just bolted to the mount hardware. Not sure if RAM have made a powered cradle of their own yet although rumour has it they could be designing a new one for TomTom.

I've been to the TomTom stand during the int. motorbike fair here in Cologne. They told me that beginning 2007 TomTom will have a new solid cradle for the current Rider. Would be good if it comes from RAM or Touratech. The Touratech mount uses the original cradle but fixes the rider better in the cradle. The guys there told me that they have heard of no more contact problems when using their mount, even in the standard version (they produce a heavy duty or off-road mount as well).

TT Rider Fault

Just read this thread and thought you may like to know I have just returned my TT rider and mount.

I am returning both this time as I have already returned the mount and received a brand new one only to find the problem still occurring

Strange thing when I spoke withTT they said that my problem (Our mutual problem) was very rare..Erm

Waiting to see what they return.. Hopefully new rider and better/improved mount

ME TOO

i read the start of this thread and thought it was me!!!

I've just got back from france/spain, the TT had always flicked on and off but on the last 2 days it died. Put my name to the list of p*ssed off TT owners!

all the best Adam

Can you let me know how you get on by returning your tom tom and mount. This is exactly what tom tom have asked me to do but i am concerned that they will just send me back exactly the same mount.

Thanks.

Just had mine returned from tomtom....rider still has "drilled" contacts, and the replacement shoe....*rse...exactly the same, exatly the same amount of movement, therefore, exactly the same problem will occur...i have spoke with them...and emailed them...my response to them was maybe a little too much, but i have been trying to get them to acknowledge there is a problem for months now, and yet again, i have come up against a brick wall...

I'm sure someone will say i was a little too harsh, but here was my reply...

I have just received my rider back from repair...apologies to Dermot who i spoke with, but having paid over £550 for this damned thing, i am seriously not happy with the support i am getting.
Read my previous emails...i asked for the rider to be included on the returns form as the contacts had holes in them, and it has come back from you with the same holes in them...which bit of "I need the contacts repairing on the Rider itself" didn't you get!!

Read this...all of you http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84987
so that the next time i speak to someone about this, i don't get told that you have never heard of this problem before.

Not only that, you have sent me a replacement "shoe"...IT'S STILL AS CRAP AS THE LAST ONE. The rider still moves about in the shoe as much as it ever did...so, the problem, with the already "drilled" contacts will just get worse...

What i want to do is use the damned thing for a week till the contacts are worn, send it back...get a replacement, use it for a week, send it back...can you see where i'm going with this one...the shoe is absolutely rubbish...there are posts on the internet saying that tomtom is talking with other companies in an attempt to manufacture a better securing arrangement...if this is the case, STOP patronising me by saying "that this is very rare indeed", and just be men about it, put your hands up and admit that the shoe is not fit for purpose...why should we have to pay £70 for someone elses product to fix yours...(which is what i have done, as i dont want to be bothered with you telling me theres nothing wrong with it), why are we having to botch things to get the rider to stay still in the shoe...why arnt you guys addressing the problem, or at the very least, agreeing that there is one and youre working on it. You said, and i quote "Our repair and service engineers are highly skilled individuals, fully trained to analyse and take the appropriate action for all TomTom products sent to them"...so how the hell has your highly skilled service engineers decided that holes in the contacts are not worthy of repair.

Guys, just refund me my money and i'll be on my merry way. This unit, as it stands is not fit for a motorbike...those that dont have a problem, i envy you, but those who do...well it appears that its tough, as tomtom dont give a damn about its cutomers.

I want a full refund. Someone contact me soonest to discuss this as i have not been able to use the rider for half the time i have owned it. Forget about repair, you had your chance and you have sent me back the same unmodified, unfit for purpose shoe.

No, I don’t think that was too harsh…nice one. :clap

I’ve sent my rider back to the supplier (QVC) as I was getting no joy from tomtom customer service :nenau

How did you get on ref your email above?....... any joy?

I have only just logged onto this thread as i have fitted 2 riders to 2 different bikes today and was suprised that both suffered from a plastic flimsy holder that keeps switching the units on and off at the slightist movement,.
Now haveing read the previous threats, I can believe how poor the mounts are,. :spitfire
I do like the strap mods though, :thumb

I have more materials now to make some more of the straps now so will have to try and pull my finger out and get making them.

Egon - I'll have one if you are in business again. I'll email you.

tomtom rider

Egon

I phoned gpsworld today to order a ram mount for my tomtom rider.
They were very helpfull and recommened me to look on the ukgser forum about the issues with the holder and buy one of your straps.
So put me down for one.
Let me know how to make payment.
He mentioned that ram had no plans in the near future to make a cradle for the rider even though they had been approached by tomtom.

Thanks
Rob

Hi all,
I'm afraid I am going to have to up the price of the straps to £10 inc p & p to cover all costs as my parts have increased.

My TTR has returned

Hi Guys

FYI I have received my TTR back after chasing for two weeks..

OK First off the unit went back to TT in Holland who then sent it on to a company in Fife.
Computer Repair Centre Ltd
1 James Watt Avenue
Glenrothes Fife

I have my unit and another new mounting shoe (Same design as my last two) It looks like they have replaced the connector pins on the rear of the main unit but they are still drilled so can not see how the problem has been resolved.

I have asked for a list of the repairs under taken and also confirmation of any parts replaced.

I can see from the thread that there is a lot of individual action going on and I am interested in any positive responses from TT.

Thnks
Andy
