Has anyone out there bodged a 3.5mm jack plug socket onto a TomTom Rider? If it's possible it would let me choose between wired and Bluetooth. Don't tell me I should have bought a Garmin with a jack socket outlet already installed, I already know that!

I wired a jack plug to a car specific tomtom via the external speaker.Seeing as there is no speaker on the Rider,I wouldn't have thought it was an easy fix.
Come on you tech geeks out there:confused:

I know little about either unit, but if the Rider is Bluetooth output only for audio, I really doubt there's any way of 'bodging' a stereo jack into one....the connections won't exist inside :nenau

Seems to me (and this is only a guess) that you will need to convert the BT signal to an audio output, then that to a stereo jack socket.....I've no doubt there are widgets on Ebay for doing exactly that, even if you have to think outside of the box a little and 'miss-use' an existing hardware application involving BT/sound.

Pick out the keywords from your OP and whack them into Google or Ebay search....I bet something will pop up, but Bluetooth signal to jack output without an intermediary device? :nono

There is some form of audio output through the terminals at the back. When you slot Rider into the car mounting you get sound through a speaker in the car mount. This works with Bluetooth off as well.

PS. This applies to a Rider 2 unit.

Livin' the dream

Not sure if this helps.
The TT Rider has 4 connectors on the back 2 for power not sure what the other 2 are for.
But the car mount for the TT Rider has a speaker in it and that as far as I am aware is not connected via bluetooth. :nenau

Yes this can be done by wiring into the terminals, don't ask me which pins though.

Cheers, Colin

Speak to this guy EMA Ltd. on 07904 956812. He fitted a 3.5mm ear phone socket to my garmin nuvi for me, I can't rember how much but about £40 and was back within a few days. I hope this helps.

Yes, I use the unit in the car and the mount has a speaker incorporated. It only works when it's connected to a power supply. I guess two of the connections are for a speaker but I can't see how to dismantle the bike mount to get at the wiring. Thanks for replies. I'll post if I find a fix.

A hard wired connection would work much better with the Autocom system I am trying to put together, on a tight budget.

Anyone manage to connect ear phone to tomtom rider

Hi I wanted to invest in a tomtom rider as am hopeless on direction and lost all the time. Has anyone managed to connect their tomtom rider to a jack plug ? I would like it to connect directly to my ears phone rather then the Bluetooth.

Thanks much appreciated,
Emily
