Picking the right moment, ducking down, watching the speedo (GPS) have no trouble dashing past 90, then rolling onto 95, then it's the slow count up to 98, 99 and then seeing the Ton - keep her nailed and she adds another 2 MPH :D

That's the great thing about an Airhead it makes doing the Ton-Up a magical experience.

On the HP2 the ton can be past almost anywhere and while your still in the process of thinking 'feck this is fast' there's no build up, it's just something that whizz's past- I expect the Wasserhead is the same.

The 1150 will of course do it but it's not in its comfort zone above and there's no sense of achievement in doing it.

....so there you have it, for the joy off doing the Ton-Up IMO an Airhead has the others beat fair and square :aidan

It was an enjoyable quick blast this morning - a 57 mile A and B road loop

60.3 average MPH
I refuelled, out of interest, to see how how much she'd drunk on a blast like that 33.7 MPG :D

Of course your high speed runs were all done on a private road :augie

Smiles per miles is what it's all about. In not really interested in riding above 90/100 mph anymore so the airheads suit my riding.

hehehe :thumb2
head down on the r80GS opened up I could get up to 150kphs but it wouldn't go further. Thats enough for me

Agreed :thumb2

For me it's rare that I get above 90mph....

Most of the time I'm unlikely to exceed 80!

High speed touring just means I'd miss the country I'm riding through

Mines very comfortable making progress in the 75 - 85 mph range but every now and then the opportunity to run her to the max is there and to tempting to miss.

Unlike my other bikes that will do the ton when ever you like, I love the fact that doing it on the airhead is a special event that needs the right place, conditions and attitude - silly I know but it's a simple pleasure that makes me smile

Private road or no the speedo is probably so far out as to be un-nickable...:D

Not far wrong Wrigsby ,I had a R80 mono and when I took it up to the ton it felt like Scotty had overcooked the dillithium crystals and I was at warp factor 10 bits were gona fall off and my helmet was straining at the chin strap ,thats enough ,eased off ,feck me that was mental ,After I stopped my mates gleefully informed me I had not exceeded 90 mph.:(

That's my point... To do the ton on an Airhead you have to go through all off the above.

And FYI... Mine was a genuine 102 MPH on the GPS which means my Balls are at least 10% bigger than yours:D

I got nicked on my 90/6 on Tuesday, my first ever speeding ticket, so it is possible. Didn't think to try the inaccurate speedo defence.

Might wind up the steering damper to 2 and see if it will do a ton, never thought to try before but plenty of straight roads round here.

My old R80/7 would do an indicated 123 on a good day. Until it dropped a valve anyway.....................

If it doesn't, Owen, there's something wrong with it. :thumb2

95mph on GPS uphill today with a high mudguard
stated to wobble big time - so did me bum hole
Leave it at that

Mile high club?

Well not quite, but I think everyone (of a certain age) remembers their own personal initiation into the Ton-up club. I distinctly remember the Ducati Scrambler 450 single on which I chased the (fast) boys on their Tritons, around the North Circular to Whipps Cross Tea hut. I would be laying on the tank in the Foetal position; wind behind me, almost there..But, no, 97 mph. I used to think well that's near enough, but really it wasn't. The following bike changed all that, and 100+ was on tap whenever the need for speed was wanted, I still remember my Chuck Yeager moment with great clarity, and affection to this day.

Mine was on the A1 southbound passing Boremwood in 1700 V4 Ford Corsair.

That was a great car, you could sling that sideways everywhere and on those occasions when it had gone past 90 degrees to the direction of travel you could still get it back :D

(Most of the time)
