I have a nasty suspicion that I have overfilled the oil in the Adventure. :banghead: I took it out for a spin to get it warmed up before checking the oil level. Can't remember now whether I left it on its side stand for 5 mins or whether I put it straight on its centre stand. Now though, ater a good run out I can't even see the the level. :( It has had a good run, but so far anyway it doesn't seem to have caused a problem - the bike is running sweet as a nut, and there is no oil leaking from anywhere.

I don't want to risk any damage to my pride and joy, so is there an easy, painless and cheap (between the GPS, Migsel mount, Ram bits etc I have blown my biking budget for a while) way to check / correct my mistake ? If there is too much in there, I haven't gone too mental as I didn't have a load left in the can to begin with.

Why you say that / do that then?

Take for 10 minute spin, get the oil warm.

Get home, side stand, helmet off. Centre Stand, leave for 10 minutes.

Then you will know for sure, or is it coming through the airbox and filler cap already!!!

Bloody hell you were quick off the mark there Commuter - I was still editing, when you replied. No, nothing at all to show that there is a problem, only my paranoid mind working overtime as I can't see the level anymore in the sight glass - so it must have gone over the "Max". If this is any use, when the bike was on its centre stand and cold, the level was bang in the middle of the sight glass. Does that mean that the level would have been right if it had been hot?

I've filled mine so the level is over the top of the glass before too......I just ran it as normal and nothing bad happened.

I reckon as long as it's not TOO much too full, you should be OK.......but then, WTF do I know :D :D

Chill man, sounds fine.

Do the same the next few days and then see.

i filled mine up to the top of the red ring once. it burned it down to the centre dot fairly quick & then seemed to stop using any

maybe theydon't like being too full.

Remove the drain plug from the air box and drain any oil that has been ejected into the air box.

Check the oil level.

If you then need to lower the level remove and empty the oil filter.

Thank you boys. Will do as you suggest and make a mental note to be more careful in future. ;)

You can't beat it...

Dooh! I'll just fill up until the oil comes out of the filler hole, that must be ok...or maybe I really should read the owners manual!!!

Same with mine, level looked too high so tilted bike over to the right slightly (left main stand leg just off the ground) and the level was showing so i knew it was'nt too over full.
Cheers
Brian.
