Too much play at rear wheel?

I have become aware of a clunk from the back end of my 1150GS when starting off from rest, and when trying to find out why, I noticed that there is about 6" of free rotation on the rim of the rear wheel when the bike is in first gear (and on the centre-stand).

Do I

a) worry about it for a bit longer
b) ignore - they all do that sir
OR
c) Go and see my mate Tim at Cooper Reading (recommendations for alternative spanner wielders welcome)

Yup, mine as well. Push your earplugs in a bit tighter
