After breaking a leg and picking up a neck injury riding off road a couple of years ago, my Doctor told me the leg was a really clean break that would heal well, but the two compressed vertebra would be what caused me problems. He was right about that.

Took two years for the neck to really become a problem but just a couple of months ago it got so bad almost overnight I knew I wasn't going to be taking my Honda SP1 over to Europe again, and a change in riding position was definitely required. Looking through the 'for sale & wanted' put me in touch with a site member and a deal was done on an 1150GS. (Thanks Titch, the bike's a credit to you:thumb2 )

Took me all of about fifteen minutes to feel right at home on it. Very pleasant to ride, with easy, stable handling and a relaxed riding position from the off. I can see us becoming good travelling companions. On the motorway going home it returned nearly 45 MPG  last time I got near that on a bike I was pedalling it ! Is this normal ? what sort of MPG will it average through the Pyrenese in June?

Having nearly emptied the tank I filled it with Shell's higher octane fuel (used to be called Optimax) and noticed a difference. It ran cleaner, more crisp with more torque. Again, is this normal? if it is then it may be worth the extra money over a long trip.

Another candidate for the GSer crocks club.Seems to be a few on here with various knackered bits (me included) that makes sports bikes purgatory.:(
Fuel consumption seems to vary from low forties to mid fifties, dependent on use.Just think, the money use save on fuel you can spend on shiny bits for the bike.:thumb

The Touratech catalgue is getting a good thumbing already ! Is this a familiar pattern ?

guys re question regarding fuel, is it worth using the higher octane stuff, i've never tried it but if it improves performance it must be worth having a go. :)
