Tools needed to split a 2012 1200 gs adv

Once you’ve done a few it’s pretty straightforward :D

Don’t take too much apart, just wheel the rear subframe away. :D
4 hour job start to finish .

It looks worse than it actually is.
So is it 4 hours for the whole job?

Just take it to Steppers of this parish, job done.

Nope, I don’t know the bike, never worked on it before.
I’ve got to that stage in my life where I’m not interested in working on bikes I’ve never touched before, 1 or 2 bolts seized and that could be a day of my life lost.

So, BMW want £1300 to do the job. Is it worth getting them to do it warranty wise and all that? The good old law of diminishing returns...

My mistake. :blast I was trying to ask you about how long it takes someone who knows what they are doing from start to finish?
Because there are no hard and fast rules and as Steppers said above One or two Seized bolts and you are screwed

Your time went from a 4 to 6 hour job to plus 50% or more

Be warned if BMW take it on and they have a seized bolt ? check are they covering the extra time or are you ???

Very good point, they have give me a print out of the quote but that is something that I'll be asking. When they quoted me for the new ZFE and fitting they stood by the quote and didn't charge me any extra for the time finding the broken wire which took quite a while.

When my clutch was done by BMW they quoted a price. It went well and everything came apart ok after 20 years. The only problem was a bleed nipple on the rear brake broke. No extra charge to fix it.

A bleednipple costs about &5 and it just screws in and out?

Of course, but it snapped, they had to remove the part that was left after it snapped. It must have come out relatively easily. But there was no charge.
That's what I referred to.

It should be a bluebook time

If the repair takes less then the bluebook time , your being charged the bluebook time regardless

if the repair takes longer than the bluebook time, the most they can charge is the bluebook time
