Hello everyone,
I just got this week a new 1250 GSA HP and ordered some alu side panniers.
I have doubts if I should get the original BMW 32L top box or get something else.

Some background:
- I come from 1200GS where I have been using a black Kappa 48 liter which I find very nice but a bit big.
- I ride mostly with side panniers and could even ride without a top case but I sometimes ride with my 10yo son therefore it’s also a safety issue .

Options I’m considering
- Kappa 42 trekker outback (of which I have the rack already incoming ): + more capacity, + cheaper * I know key lock can be adopted to my BMW key. - doesn’t look as good as original in a set (?)

- 32 L BMW (+looks good on a set, + same key , - smaller capacity , - more expensive).
If I go this route I would get a good used condition one.

I’m not considering bigger options for now.
As for reference I do t plan to regale in two so the 58 is definitely out of the radar now .

I’d like to hear your opinions.

Thanks

Well I have just the thing in the for sale section....

I’m swapping it for a Givi 46l which lets me carry all my work kit without the need for panniers. If that wasn’t the case I would hang onto it - it fits well, looks good and is pretty robust.

Have seen it but can’t reply or PM. A friend of mine sent it to me though

Go for the plastic Trekker TRK52 or the kappa equivalent

It will fit on your mono key mount and holds 2 full face lids, doesn’t look too big either

Sorry forgot to mention I’m only considering aluminum options

Just remember , the bigger the top box , the less fun you will have , similar to towing a caravan or packing a tent ....

Just get the black GSA top box. It looks good, can be keyed to the bike, and you can get a back pad for pillions.

I use a Givi DLM30 Trekker Dolomiti Aluminium Top Case on the back of my 1250gs. Low profile and works well for me- only downside is that it means another key.
You'll also need the givi aluminium back rack to- SRA5108- which is well made and looks good on the gs

I have the Givi trekker Dolomiti on my GSA LC 1200. It's the 46l model in black. Decent size, looks good and doesn't look out of place on bike.

Get the bmw one.

You won’t save anything really by the time you buy adapters and the like and you don’t need the extra space so why not have a Mathching set of boxes?

I paid £290 for mine new from ocean motorrad on their eBay store. A second hand one might come in and save a few quid

Exactly what I am leaning towards to...
Must find the right one

I have a brand new never used BMW top box in black from my 2018 GSA Rallye if you are interested ? It has the two lock barrels for my key but I’m not sure if they can be recoded so may need new ones from dealer.

The locks will just need new wafers. It’s a very easy job.

Right, do you know if they can be bought separatly ?
I’ve coded 3 already and I think due to my code combination I might need new ones for the second pannier that I bought used

Most dealers have drawers full of them, so will probably give you some if you ask nicely. ;)
