Well, the new 1200GS is now run in after 1500 km through Victoria and Tasmania over the last few days.
THe new one has a number of improvements over the previous one. THe engine seems smoother and pulls a bit better. You forget after a few months just how good these things are. THis time round we were two up and the bike was just brilliant regardless what we threw at it. From fast motorway into Melbourne to slow speed dirt through the Australian alps the bike just did not skip a beat.
So you can imagine my suprise that the top box did not, I repeat did not, fall off. I have read so often that I had begun to think that this was a normal part of ownership. So I thought that it was best to post this unusual event. 1500 km and the top box was still there. It did not shake off at speed. It did not shake off on corners. It did not shake off on rough dirt roads.
Obviously I have a problem with my top box. I am sure that there is someone somewhere on this forum who can help me modify my top box so that it does not exhibit these strange traits and I can begin to experience the more normal behaviour of the top box falling off.
I was also very disappointed that I have been able to use my BMW assist. Again many here talk about how they have become best friends with the BMW assist blokes and have the number on speed dial. As yet I have not had the pleasure of meeting any of these fine gentlemen. Again, any help I can get to turn my reliable 1200GS into the more normal ones that people always talk about here would be appreciated.
Anyway with the weekend approaching I will be off for a ride. I will take my top box to see if I can get it to fall off and carefully put the BMW asist card in the wallet in the hope of making some new friends. But I know that I will remain disappointed and that the 12 will just deliver miles of smiles as I enjoy the biking roads of southern Tasmania.
It is just great to be back on two wheels.

As for BWM Assist, got more chance of being bitten by a daffodil
