So it would appear that there is now way to use the Vario box I have on the newer 1250's we're collecting tomorrow.
BMW still show the plate we have on the 2019 as the one needed but I can't see how that will fit to the steel rear rack the 2020 ones have.
Anyone know?
Otherwise we'll be looking to swap the vario box for an aluminium one sharpish!

Are you getting your GS and GSA mixed up?

The vario box is for the GS , the metal box is for the GSA.

The GSA rack will fit the GS bike if you prefer an aluminium box on a GS and vice versa you can put put the GS plastic rack on the GSA if you want a vario box on a GSA……or at least it would on the 1200 GS LC.

You can get the plate for the Vario box from a dealer if it’s a GS you are talking about.

I had to get one for my 2022 GS and it’s just 4 bolts. I was most annoyed when I tried to put the box on that came off my 1200 and it wouldn’t fit. It never even occurred to me it wouldn’t fit the standard BMW rack..

About 90 quid if I remember.

No I’m not. :blast
The 1250 Rallye in GS Trophy/ORS form comes with the steel rear rack.
If you’d bothered actually reading the post you’d see I already have a 1250 and the vario plate which I had to buy separately because Vines didn’t bother moving the one from my 1200 over despite them having inspected it with the box on and agreeing to do so.
The two ex-ORS bikes I’m currently driving to collect tomorrow at 8am have the steel rack fitted as supplied direct by BMW to them.
Hence my question.

To be honest your original post isn't that concise. I thought the same as Steve, and I did read it. There is nowhere it says you are getting Rallye or Ex ORS bikes, that would have made the difference. I believe these ORS bikes are setup as a GSA is as far as the rack goes. You will need to convert it back to a standard GS rack to get the Vario to fit in a standard way. Steves answer was correct.

I read the post a few times because it isn’t particularly clear, as mentioned by GSian and alluded to by scotsrick who wasn’t clear “what you’re on about”.

As already mentioned , my answer was correct.
The bikes you’re collecting aren’t standard spec , as you chose to point out in your twattish answer. Maybe if you’d mentioned that initially, instead of being a smartarse afterwards.

The incompatibility between racks and boxes is well known and has tripped up a lot of people, myself included.
Maybe if you’d bothered to do some research on here first you would have established that.

Your ‘topbox swap’ post in the wanted section is equally unclear.

It hasn't "tripped me up". I know the GSA has a different rack but BMW only show one plate for the vario mounting and there is no mention of it being specific to the silver/black grab rail style base. Even on the parts fiche when you drill right down.
There is no mention anywhere either of the ex-ORS bikes being fitted as the GSA hence not considering needing to spend on yet something else.
The wanted post is quite clear - swap boxes or buy the standard grab rail/base secondhand.

The parts fiche will probably say GS or GSA. It will not claim the mounting plate is suitable for a GSA. There IS only one mounting plate for the vario box on the GS which might explain why only one is shown.
The mistakes and misunderstandings are all yours .
You ask advice and then get snotty with your answers. Three guys who replied weren’t clear what you were trying to achieve….the common factor is you.

Did you buy the bikes completely unseen?
