Top Box Tyre Pressure & ESA Settings

Just wondering if anyone knows what settings to use if you are only riding with a Vario top-box.

Do you need to select luggage with ESA?

Just wondering as technically it's not a pannier, obviously with those attached I would adjust the above :)

Any ideas?

Steve, not having ESA I dont know whether this would be an issue.

What does the manual say on the issue?

(i would think the only tyre pressure issues would be those changes needed for two up/ full luggage etc.)

This last week I have been riding with full luggage on the solo only setting. However, the panniers have been pretty empty (was needing them to stash my kit when parked, and cant be bothered to take them off), and stayed on the solo setting because I forgot....

I thought the ride was a bit more complient and didnt notice any ill effect on the handling. (Im 6' and just over 13st before I put my bike kit on)

Refers to luggage, with pics of panniers. Big difference between the weight of top box and side panniers combined. Makes me think of ordering non-ESA next time as it's not a big deal but would give more flexibility in terms of suspension set up for weight/passengers.

Was going to try it out yesterday to see the difference but the bike has broken down!

LIGHTWEIGHT! You need more pies and ale.

You have summed up so much in just one post:clap

And if you have a big dump during the day, don't forget to reduce the spring pre-load, to match the pre-load on the sphincter ;)

Thought about saying ar5e, but now we can have Egypt comments as well :)

I wondered when some bright spark wouls say that :blast.

Evening John!:D

Mate - I think you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between top box attached or not. I can't, and thats with the heavier BMW Ali box on my GSA. Suspect things are getting a bit anal or perhaps you are on the wrong bike. Just ride the fekker.

Er, I can definitely tell the difference, which is why I ride now with panniers rather than top box.

I know that it makes little difference if you are just plodding, but some of us like to use a bit more than the middle 1/3 of the tyres, and bottom half of the rev range...

So what do you with your tyre pressures?

So has Valentino asked if he can borrow the panniers :nenau

Thanks for the helpful replies. Done 5000 miles since owning the bike in June and have enjoyed riding it a lot. Not a big deal about the top box effect, just interested in what people thought. Bunged a couple of psi in the tyres and will leave it at that. :)
