You need to specify which top box you mean - black plastic vario top box or black coated alloy GSA topbox. The former is mainly plastic which doesn’t suffer from corrosion: the latter is coated in black material ( don’t know if the coat is paint or vinyl wrap) and therefore will be more corrosion resistant than the bare alloy variant.

TBH, the bare alloy ones only corrode if you don't look after them. Mine is nearly three years old, and used all year round, and not showing any signs of corrosion. If used when salt is on the roads, they just need to be hosed off well.
I think the BMW supplied black ones are anodised, so I don't think they'll corrode as easily as the bare aluminium ones. However, I'm sure, like any anodised product, they will corrode to some degree if not looked after.
I'm in the process of wrapping my bare aluminium ones with the kits from Humvee Graphics, they look like new!
Pure Aluminium does not corrode, only aluminium alloy does. Most aluminium alloy sheet is supplied as "alclad", that means there is a thin layer of pure aluminium cladding on the alloy to prevent corrosion. If you clean it aggressively then you will quickly remove the cladding.

Anodising is a way of preventing corrosion on alloy and can be coloured or invisible.
An occasional spray and wipe with GT85.
I always do this on alloy forks after a ride and never had a problem with corrosion
so I'm sure it will work with panniers and top box's.
Thanks for the mention our wrap kits are a great way to freshen up a box suffering the early stages of tarnishing/mild corrosion and also a good way to protect the surfaces of a new box suffering from unsightly corrosion.
