Top Five Laminated Jackets

@Arsey...thought I resurrect this thread a year on to see how you got on with the hinterland gear. A about to replace my old Halvarssons jacket and don't want to spend a fortune. Rukka isn't worth it for me as I plan no intercontinental journeys so after a genuinely WP jacket to pair with my Halvarsson's trousers for the winter.

They look like a sealed waterproof zip which you open for airflow, and not actual pockets. If I am looking at the same thing.
Think they saw the error of their ways and put drainage in.

The oxford and Rev'it stuff looks better to me...don't think the jacket above is that well thought out tbh.

Picked up an Oxford Stormland recently after using an original Mondial for last 3 years (Lost some weight as only reason). Mondial was good not letting a drop of water in in all weathers.

Stormland seems to be a step up and feels slightly more robust or rigid.

Oxford stuff is good but a bit stiff.
I had a Hinterland two piece for a while and it was fully waterproof and cheap, as was reduced.
But it wasn’t very comfy , being quite stiff.
Sold it and bought a Bering Hurricane Goretex laminate jacket that was in a Motolegends Sunday sale for half price.
A few weeks later they emailed me to offer same deal on pants .
I can honestly say it’s the best kit I’ve ever had, more comfy than Rukka Nivala and more waterproof too due to the design .
Think I paid about £450 for both jacket and pants . Bloody bargain

I wear a Rukka Nivala 2 jacket and in Monday's storm I rode for 2 hours down the M1. Vicious crosswinds, driving rain and motorway spray and I was completely dry. £1,400 at full price although I got it much, much cheaper. My riding jeans were covered by my approximately £14 Mountain Warehouse waterproof trousers. My legs were also completely dry for 1% of the price of the jacket. Yer pays yer money...

Thanks for the feedback....I'll give Oxford a Miss then. Looking at the Bering jacket now and seems pretty decent even at full price. Also looking at the Dianese Carve Master 3 and Revit Vertical.

The Bering is the best laminated kit I’ve had . Easily the most comfortable and 100% waterproof

Only drawback for me is that it's A rated, not double A which I'd prefer. Good spec jacket though.

That review is seriously flawed. No mention of the new Klim Kodiac, i had mine when they first came out and riden in it all over Europe can’t fault it. Its seen biblical rain and scorching heat it’s simply fantastic carry on.

Check the Rev'it Horizon 3 jacket.....

AA rated with L2 armour.

Cheaper than the Vertical GTX......because it uses Rev'it own membrane (which is absolutely fit for purpose)

Worth a look.

I’m looking at kit at the mo.
Really like the look of the Merlin Akashi. Saw it at ABR and tried jacket on. Seemed good but I’d had a couple of beers.
Other one in the running is Revit Neptune 3. Not tried that on yet.
Appreciate theres about 400 quid between them.

I’ve been in Oxford Mondial stuff for about 4 years and it’s been superb, things about the Mondial 2 and Stormland I’m not so keen on.

Am I the only one on here that prefers layers to laminate ?

You can’t be well vented and waterproof
I use both .
Used my Klim Marrakech / Zephyr and Scott Ergo WP jacket in June in Spain/Portugal with temps up to mid 30s.
Going to Pyrenees first week October and as it’s probably peeking at 20 degs will wear my Bering Hurricane Goretex laminate suit or possibly just the jacket with new Rokker Revolution waterproof jeans .

I like the look of both the Lindstrands Luxor laminated jacket and Halvarsson's Vinvallen jacket. Their kit tends to score well in CE ratings and they're well made and their abrasion resistance is decent. Not Goretex but having experienced Halvarsson's own breathable Dryway 20/20 fabric, it's as good as drop liners get which aren't Goretex. I usually carry a WP throw over jacket for intense rain on longer trips so perhaps the drop liner jacket would be the more versatile (hate riding in a wetted out jacket...you get cold, quick!).

I’m with you on this. Hate all laminated stuff. Normal layering with waterproofs in tank bag works for me. Also, heated vest is game changer for core temperature.
Disclaimer: I am pussy 3 season rider though 😬
