Topping up remote preload fluid

Hi
Need to have a go at topping up the remote preload reservoir fluid on a R1100GS. Winds Up/ down all the way, but has no effect.

Can anyone remember if you just refill by whipping the adjuster knob off and the bolt/ piston or is it a case of refill via the banjo union under the reservoir.

Stu,

Unwind the adjuster knob completely (do it in a bag to keep the ping fekit (small sping and ball bearing) from going across the garage)
Undo the bajo bolt and poor in some light oil (hydraulic jack oil or similar)

Put it all back together, and wind thru' full range to check

All done.

Reservoir only had a small amount of oil in it. Pushed back the plunger inside and refilled with a syringe. Not ridden it, but just winding up the preload now feels like it is actually doing something.

You may have to manually push the piston up into the adjuster body, just turning the knob may not retract it. Any air in the line will migrate up to the adjuster, so you may need to repeat the fill procedure.

Amazing what a difference this makes.
About 4-years ago I was ready to replace the rear shock on my 2003 GS when I happened to read an earlier thread on the same subject, cured the problem and I haven't had to touch it since.
