Torque setting?

May I enquire as to the correct torque setting for the handlebar clamps on an F800gs?
I have some migsel risers knocking about that I had on a GSA12 and if they prove suitable , will fit them. Cheers Dave.

I'm not sure of the torque setting. However, I'm fairly sure the 800 has bigger diameter bars than the 1200. They probably won't fit.
 
Thats what I was concerned about before raked them out of the cobwebs in the garage but when I put the risers to the bars they do appear to fit. The bars seem to be an interference to the original clamps and the gs12 risers seem the same.
 
I use a torque wrench for the barrel mounting on my targets rifles because it's critical and affects the aim. I don't use them on motor vehicles because it's entirely unnecessary. You could, maybe, start to convince me that it's worth doing on cylinder head bolts, but probably not.
For something like handlebar clamp bolts.......you don't need a torque wrench.
Use a normal ring spanner and do them up firmly. Don't burst a blood vessel or break a sweat - just firmly. They'll be fine.

I think you are probably spot on with that observation-on my previous bikes I have adopted that approach and ,to date, nothing has come loose although I have experienced that horrible and sudden spin of the wrench followed by the realisation that I had stripped the thread.
 
From the maintenance DVD:

Handlebars to clamping block
Tighten the front screws (as viewed in the forward direction of travel) first, then the rear screws.
28 Nm
