Hi Guys, I'm looking to buy a Torque Wrench, but got baffled by the different sizes. ( Drive size & NM Scale). :nenau

I am going to attempt some of my own servicing on my 1150 GS.

Any advice would be most welcome. :bounce1

Look up what items you're likely to torque and their values then decide if one torque wrench will do for all ......................unlikely since you need a 3/8" and 1/2" drive to cover them all.

Not being funny but if your going to touch your own bike, I'd advise you work it out yourself first:beerjug:

Thanks Timolgra, I thought that maybe the case, I was hoping that one of the two maybe have been the best choice, ie... 3/8 drive used say 75% of the time.

I reckon you need a few - just to give you the most accuracy. I've got a small 3/8 0-25nm one and a big F Off 1/2 inch for the rest. Make sure its a ratchet and some like my Teng have a degree marker too for things like the head bolts where they're something like '20NM + 90 degrees rotation'

Just don't drop it!!! They don't like a whallop! I'm on no. 2. Also have a hafrauds 3/8 with adapters.

Which bolts do you expect to have to torque?

Buy a torque wrench (check ebay some new norbar on there) 3/8 drive, scale 6-60 NM , that will cover the majority your likely to need. As for 1/2inch drive requirements you can pick up an adapter for around £5 so you really only need one wrench.
You will however also need to buy a set of torx and hex head sockets, think i paid £30 for mine which came with 1/2 & 3/8 adapters to suit whatever wrench you were using.
Hope this helps:thumb

1150 needs 1/2" for rear wheel bolts 105Nm but 3/8" better for all the rest.
I have Halfors each size and works well.

Torque-turn angles:

1150GS is 20Nm plus 180 degrees - easy enough to do by eye.
Example - 1200GSA twin cam is 150 degrees (75+75) but it is also (90+60) which are easy angles to see by eye.

Thanks to all who have responded, this is the answer I was looking for, now to sound like a proper dummy, when it say plus, ie 180 degrees is that the Torque settings plus another half a turn. :blast. Many Thanks.

Yes.......there's 360 degrees in a whole turn so when the big hand on the clock moves one minute it's gone through 6 degrees:D
