just been told that the 150/70 R17 69H metzeler tourance specced for the 1100/1150GS has been discontinued by metzeler and tyre shop i asked can't get one.

don't panic, 150/70 R17 69V is to replace it, but there is no stock.

lucky i'm not in a hurry

Try a Pirelli MT90 Scorpion. Almost the same tread pattern, probably made in the same factory, and as far as I'm concerned, performs as well as the Tourance.

I couldn't get a Tourance either...:)

i was thinking distanzia, but i'll get a price/availability on the scorpion too :)

Just had a new front Tourance fitted

... and the dealer said he couldn't get an H rated version, so supplied the V rated one for same price.

The Metzeler UK website is currently listing the V-rated Tourance for the 1200GS, but the 100, 1150 and Adventure only show the Karoo.

Odd.

maybe my bloke's right about there being no stock.

i only asked about rear, for which i was quoted £86.47 inc. VAT when they can get one.

Tis true, no more H rated tourances, I was in Micheldever tyres on Monday morning for a new front tyre V rated ride in ride out £77.

The guy there told me a lot of manufacturers were droping the lower rating range. why make two tyres H and V when you need only make the V.

It also means that tyre shops dont need to keep stocks of both types in.

The V rated front feels just fine on my GS I can not tell the difference. The V rated tyre is designed for higer sustained speed and a heavier loading than the H, so it may last a wee bit llonger too.

I, too, was at Micheldever on Monday. The chap took me round the wareg=house so that I could get an idea of the differeing tread patterns on the tyres suitable for the GS.

They had five sets of Tourances in stock at 1700 hrs.

I was told that the change from H to V was made in part because there had been problems with the H-rated tyres where the rubber was 'splitting' in the 'valleys' between the tread blocks. Apparently this doesn't happen with the V-rated tyre.

As it happens, I was keen on the Bridgestone 020, but setled for the new Dunlop. They've fitted them to seven bikes with no-one coming back with any complaints. They are less knobbly than the Tourance, but more chunky than the 020.

They were £143 fitted - ride in - ride out.

Micheldever has been doing well out of us lot this week! I was there yesterday - got the last 150/70 rear Tourance in stock. Must be selling like hot cakes.

I managed to get a rear Tourance from National Tyres in Manchester. Fortunately he had one in stock. In fact he told me that Metzler's sales dept had been on the phone wanting to buy it back because they were so desperate to get hold of one.

Use the force Luke, listen to your inner Jedi saying "TKC, TKC, TKC".

I wouldn't go back to Tourances now.

From what I have seen of the Avons (Ralphy had a set) they are crap quality.
