Tourance EXP - is this a record?

Just got back from a trip to Europe and the back Tourance which the bike came with is now totaly shagged and down to 1mm of tread having done only 3,600 miles

I know the twin cam is grunty and the EXP not the longest lasting tyre but 3,600 miles is some what less than I was expecting - is this a record

Think I will the chuck the part worn Trail Attack I have in the garage on the back and see how it handles with the EXP front

My bike has EXPs fitted (1500 miles so far and looking ok) and am going down to Morroco in October (approx 4k round trip) and not planning on changing tyres until I get back.

I too have them fitted, At 6000 miles and the rear is down to 3mm

Similar story here, bike has just under 4k miles on it including just under 3k miles across Europe and the Dolomites, rear tyre has about 1mm in the centre-maybe less on the sides.....front tyre is more worn on the shoulders than the centre and the tread blocks have feathered quite badly, I've always rated EXP s for their grip and predictability at the limit but I'll be trying something else next time, most likely conti trail attack. The wear rate is no surprise to me but is a little less than my previous EXP s which made it to 5k

I've done 3,500 miles on mine. Still some left in the rear but squaring off nicely! Front feathering well and that predictable rumble as you start to lean it into a bend!

I'm not convinced I need EXP's. I've always found quite enough grip from my old Tourances and Trailattacks - which is what I will be going back to!!

I'm not sure I depend on regular Tourances lasting that long, let alone EXPs

over 4000 miles on my trail attacks, including 2600 mile, 2 up, trip to the dolomites.

TBH they were slightly squared off when i got there (no problem though), but a few hundred miles there soon made them round again

they also did a very spirited ride through heavy rain over mountain passes for a day with no slides at all.
as with the last pair of TAs i had, they can be persuaded to slide in the dry though, if they get hot enough*, and you give them enough stick. i've managed it about 4 times on two sets, but it's always been very controllable and i've never been concerned.

they look like they're about half worn


*never happened in the UK's chilly climate.

Got just 5000 out my rear EXP, put Pilot 3's on and currently have 6000 on it, but it has feathered quite badly so is about ready to change, great tyre and will have them again.
But for now after reading other posts about tyres I have a new set of Tourances in the garage ready to fit (not EXP's). I am waiting as long as I dare before I fit them as I am also off to Morocco in Oct.

my tourances were the same ....front wore on the sides and the rear in the centre and after 3.5k i had to change them ..... .....they feel good on the raoad ,,,but really ??? do they have to go so quickly .? ..........
my first K 60 lasted 5.5 k on the rear and the front is still going after 7k .....but you shouldn't compare the two kind of tyres, as they do two really different things

No, it may be round and black, with a hole in the middle, but I think it's almost certainly a tyre, not a record. The latter tend to be somewhat smaller, much thinner and only have a very small hole in the centre

Seriously though - 3k miles is rather poor if you haven't been thraping it everywhere (or running with the pressure much too high or low). For whatever reason, I have always been very hard on bike tyres - all the bikes I've owned over the decades have generally managed 3k from a rear tyre, 6k from a front (although I did once manage to demolish a rear TT100 in 1500 miles...). The GSA has bucked that trend for me though - the OE Trail Attacks managed more or less twice that mileage, without me trying to be economical. I've now switched to Trailmax TR91s, for no other reason than I really liked the Dunlops I had on my F800ST.

Exp life

Long time lurker first time post. I have a 2007 r1200gs adventure
Had a set of exp's mounted in may of this year. Rear tire bald and not safe to use at 3900 miles of 50/50 mixed highway touring and winding mountain roads (my 80 mile a day commute to work and week long vacation) front tire is wasted after 4500 miles. This is my second set as they are frequently available as new bike takeoffs at my local BMW dealer at about half the cost of new with only a dozen miles at the most. I am a fairly aggressive rider at times (30 years of motorcycle commuting will do that to you) first set didn't due much better.
I can't complain about feel or performance on my bike but the frequent
Replacement interval has me looking for something else. On my prior bike (2001 r1150gs) a regular tournce would usually last about 6-7k miles on rear and 9-10k on the front.

Welcome If you can regularly get them at half the cost I suspect you'll struggle to beat the cost per mile you're getting now!

Blimey. I take it 'EXP' is short for 'Expensive'.

8k+ on a Conti trail attack rear and a Conti road attack front. Probably another 1k left.

Yep - Trail Attacks are still my tyre of choise and will be going back to them. Just the new bike came with EXP's fitted - nothing wrong with them other than the wear rate and squaring off badly towards the end.

3500 miles so far on Dunlop TR91's (2008 GSA) and no noticable wear on front or rear yet. Popped down to the BMW meet at Garmish last week in all weathers and fantastic grip also.
