I'm off on a couple of tours this year (Spain in May, then Italy in Sept), and so I'm trying to determine when to change the tyres.

Being used to sports bikes, tyres last ...... well 3000 if I'm lucky and ride slowly. However the 1150GS (Adventure) seems to be much better at preserving the tyres.

I've checked the forum, and whilst Search may be my friend, the results for expected tyre life were....... interesting, quite varied and not really helpful, as it seems to depend on riding style.

So rather than ask how many miles (although you can answer if you wish), I'd rather ask what is the tread depth on a new set of Tourance's?

I'm hoping this way I can determine how much life might be left.

Thanks in advance

Cheers

My rear is 1 day old and has about 10 mm of tread to it.

i think it's 7mm but could be 8. best i can do.

edit: reading the above post, i could be completely wrong :eek

whatever it is, i get about 7k from a rear.

I would consider myself a fairly quick rider and I got 9500 miles from my last Tourance. New one fitted yesterday.
Stop worrying and get one on.:thumb2 :thumb2

In comparison, I used to get 2500-3000 from a BT010 on a VFR 750

in luck, just had a new set fitted on Thursday, Front 6mm, Rear 10mm.....my last set did 13500...am not a spirited rider...:D

Thanks for the replies guys,

I'll be doing 3500 miles on the first trip, the bikes already got 3500 on the tyres, and the tread depth is 4mm front, & same at the back. So I guess riding 2 up with luggage, the front will make it, but the back won't.

So I guess it's new tyres for me - & maybe keep the old-uns as spares.

Thanks for the info.

Cheers

This always happens to me, I end up having 3,000 miles worth of tyre left but then change them for a long trip.

It would be worth checking on availability of Tourances in other countries, I am sure they are readily, however is it worth the hassle of finding a dealer and loosing a couple of hours? :nenau

I get through two back Tourances to one front (6000 miles at the back, 12000 at the front). I'd probably change the back one, throw the old one into the back of the garage in case I ever got a puncture and needed a replacement in a hurry, then wonder how to get rid of the perished ring of toxic waste in ten years time...
