I've just re-shod the beast with Tourances for a quite reasonable £188 (Universal Tyres, Union Street, SE1. 020 8808 3179). Ride in, ride out and Central London too ! However, the previous tyres were Enduro 4's which seem to have lasted extremely well i.e. Front 10,300 Rear 8,900 (with plenty left). Reading various tyre threads on here it appears I will be lucky to get similar mileages from the Tourances.

What are the significant differences between the two, other than a more open tread pattern on the Tourances.

Are Enduro 4's still available ?

My last set of Tourances lasted well, 14000 front and 10800 rear. Most of my riding is in and around London. If you have a smooth riding style, I don't see any reason why you won't get a similar mileage.

I think the Enduro 4 is still available. David Holmes had one fitted within the last 2-3 weeks to his GS.

..you can always spot bob..he paddles every thursday to collect his pension...2 miles down the road and two miles back.......

hes never used a gear outside 1st so the rest of the box seized. the tyres would have lasted longer but he has trouble gettting the bike on its centre stand so they tend to wear where the bike keeps falling off the stand. ho hum

Enduro 4's had stopped being made.
But the Honda Varadero + tourances just didn't get on,
so they brought out a new version of the enduro 4.

So they are available,
I was told to put a enduro 4 on the front for quicker steering,
but i can't really tell the difference from the previous tourance.

Thank's peep's !

The only difference I note to date is that the Tourances seem to 'squirm' more when passing over road paint; not too bad just more than the Enduro 4.

This is just so not true.
Everybody says this. My BMW dealer says it, my local Honda dealer says it. But I can tell you this is absolutely not true.
Even had the PR rep from Metzler Pirelli (Moto) ring me on my mobile to tell me this just was not true.
The truth is the Enduro 4 has always been made.
The Tourance was never meant to replace it.
Tourances are the market leader, they cant make enough to keep up with demand.
And everyone who has ever ridden a bike with Tourances on it is 100% happy and satisfied with the tyre.

So now you know.

PS, Oblertone: Everyone I know who has used both the Tourance and Enduro 4 has got more mileage out of the Tourance. This might be because:
a) The Tourance has significantly more tread depth than the Enduro 4 from new, or
b) You are so unhappy riding on Tourances that the only miles they do are those you spend pushing your bike around the garage trying to get it out of the way of something youd rather ride, in my case a DT125 R.

I didn't realise that Metzerler were still making the Enduro 4. I always thought the Tourance was a replacement for it.

OP

PS Robeekay67 me old mucker, why are you such a twat? What was the point of the personal comments in this thread? They weren't even funny!!!

So it's not true then :P

Seems odd why so many people including dealers
seem to tell the same story

My dealer Wally of cw's even reckoned the new version of the
Enduro 4 was'nt as good as the old version.

I've just replaced my Tourances after 10,000 miles. There was still a few thousand left in them but as I'm riding to the Picos in a few weeks I thought it was safer not to risk it. I used Ultraseal in them by the way which is supposed to increase mileage and I have to say that they had more tread on them than my previous set at 10,000.

Cheers

Dick

Well he didn't tell me that when he persuaded me to fit an Endo 4 on the front last month
And he was trying to persuade me to fit one on the rear, reckoned even I would notice an improvement in everything but wear....
Still, maybe he gave me one of his old stock :)

Ahh but
Wally did say the new version of the
Enduro 4 was'nt as good as the older version.

But still better than the Tourances ;)

you get what you pay for, enduro 4's are not much cheaper than tourances

Yep, and I would readily pay for another Endo 4, whereas there is another Tourance in my garage going back for another refund as soon as I can find another half day off work to take another hoop of crap back.
