Hello all , not had my gsa long , may 09 ,only 2500 miles so far but i'm off to italy on a ride in three weeks time , i'm expecting to do about 2500/3000 miles , will my tourances make it round or will they be shagged long before then ? , stopping off at the ring for my first taste on the way back so i'd rather they still worked a bit!

regards Craig

i think you will make it, if your unsure , take em off, an fit em later when the new uns wear out?

I get around 10 thou out of old style Tourances on my 1100, are yours EXP Tourances ?

The rear is good for at least 4.5k to 5k, depending how you ride. Some report 10k+, but they've got fused bones in their right wrists.

A bit marginal, personally I'd swap it, pointless spoiling a good holiday due to saving a few quid on a tyre change.

How much have the tyres worn in your 1st 2.5K miles and how much tread have you got left?.
Mind you,as a rich 1200 owner you can afford to change tyes early and if you're doing the ring then i might be tempted to have pair of proper road tyres fitted.:thumb
Its ony the tightwad 1100 owners who worry about tyre life....:D

You're absolutely right , for the sake of one'r its not worth stressing about , gonna change the rear before i go.

p.s. pretty sure i'm not gonna be getting 10k plus out of my tourances , i've caught the old bill's eye a couple of times in the last two month's and it wasn't for my smooth stylish lines and courtesy......lol

Hiya Colban , I'm far from rich mate beleive me ....got to cough up half a weeks pay every month for the next 3 years , my kids are on gruel...lol , i'll be an honorary 1100 owner in spirit(mean off course) if you'll let me...lol

I went to Italy etc this year with Tourances fitted to my 1200 which had done 3k before I left, done just over 3k in 10 days abroad and still have plenty of tread left for at least for another 4k. 8-10K miles on a back tyre easy, and I use the right hand :) . I certainly would not change it

Now done 5k on EXPs, 1mm of tread left in the centre - getting close to a change. Plenty left onthe front.

throttle fused open

i got 12 and a half k out of the front tourance and the rear which was replaced at 4k due to a bad puncture still looked ok
ps my wrist bones are so fused that i lapped brands indy circuit at 1 min flat on a tzr 250 :thumb

Got 17,000 Klms out of my tourances and the front still had tread left. I ride 2 up all the time. The secret I feel is to check tyre pressure all the time. 36 front and 42 rear 2 up.

Agree with CliveS always check pressures 36/42. My rear done 7k, and that was mostly 2 up with full gear. It probably would have lasted longer on normal wear, but having done 3k in the Alps does put it thru it's paces. My front is still good and has done 8k thus far, I expect it to goto 10K.
