No doubt been done to death :blast

Time for some new rubber on the rear, i am a road only ride so looking at Tourances or maybe some Michelin Pilot Road.

Tourances come out good in wet, i have battlewings on front and rear at the moment, and on recent trip to Isle of Man, on Tuesday when it was wet, the front just refused to grip, it was sliding all over the place. I would turn in on a round-about and felt like bike was going to slip away from underneath me, rear was ok ish, but the front was appalling :( :tears

Could someone clarify the differences in Tourances i've been reading, some last longer than others, and seen reference a M version? :confused:
 
original Tourance gives better wear still avaliable and infact the easiest ones to get.
Tourance EXP was supposed to be a newer better tyre (can be standard on a new bike, they are what mine came with) but dont give anything like the same mileage and seem to be prone to odd wear patterns and cracking. I have experience of the cracking personally.
I think the M your on about is the revamped EXP. I dont know anyone who has used them yet so cant comment on them good or bad.

As for road only rider you maybe shouldnt be looking at Tourance tyres as they are a part road part trail tyre. Pilots obviously are pure road tyres but I have never used them. I have used Conti road attacks and they were good. All that said and done I use the original Tourances and have never had a problem with them in the grip dept, wet or dry.
 
I agree with your comments re the Battlewings; worst tyre I've ever used so back to Tourances for my GSA.
 
Just bought an 09 1200 SE and its still on its original tyres... but I have a pair of OLD style Tourances waiting to be fitted... stick with the originals NOT the EXP :thumb

I've got EXP's on at the mo and am booked in this week for a pair of Road Attacks.

I thought the EXP's were a pretty good tyre, their grip was good and their wet weather grip particularly good. I'd have no problem recomending them.

Ive used Pilot road's and pilot road 2's a number of times on previous bikes, (can you get pilot 2's for the front? Not sure you can...) and again - nice tyre and great wet weather grip.

I was getting about 4K out of a rear tyre on both of these makes.

There seems to be a common trend in these tyre threads, where the question of grip v tyre life always rears its head, which I don't quite understand. You can't have an ultra grippy set of tyres that also gives you 6, 7, 8 thousand miles (from your rear).

Bryn may well still have his original tyres still on his bike and for him, that may well make them a great tyre choice, but it doesn't necessarily make them great tyres, so be wary of replies that tell you that a particular tyre was crap because it only lasted for so many thousand miles..

Personally, grip is my number one priority in a tyre, so I wouldn't want a pair of standard Tourances on my bike, but thats my choice, others may well put the longevity of a tyre at the top of their wish list.

Your style of riding will probably dictate your choice of tyre.
 
Avon's Storm/Azaros have given the best grip in the dry and wet by miles on mine. But being fully road tyres that don't have the 'look'.

As I'm broke at the moment I'm using the Tourances that M&P did cheap last year. They're ok, but a bit squirmy in the wet.

Millage is important for me in the car, but not the bike. If thats RE Tourances i'll look at Michelin Pilot Roads, Trail Attacks are multi use too i think?

I would like to learn to ride off road, but for that i'll go full nobblies, if and when that comes up.

I'll ring North Oxford BMW and see what they say :)
 
...... and if the front was so bad in the wet on your recent trip, don't just change the rear, get a pair ..... :thumb

Who said they don't grip? My GS will touch down in the dry with Tourance - you can't lean any more than that. They're also top drawer in the wet.

There again, I'd never claim 10k+ miles from a tourance. 4-5k and they're toast.
 
Old Tourances were fitted to my GS when new in 07, brilliant tires, fantastic grip in all weathers...well, hot dry and hot wet.... and about 17k miles from front and rear. No complaints, shame I cant get any new ones here.
 
just rang NOG and booked myself in for a set of Tourances (old style) - Quoted £304 for front and rear fitted, i know i could prob get it cheaper my local independent dealer, but i hate them with a passion!

Tunnie that seems expensive.

Anyhow I find Tourances great tyres and grippy plus they look good for this type of bike rather than pure road tyres.
 
Just been quoted £263 for Trail Attacks (but there seems to be a lack of supply of rears) and £251 for Tourances fitted.
