Folks,

I've limped my Rukka suit through the last 15+ years, re-proofing regularly and replacing Velcro and repairing rips, etc (Lancashire Sports Repairs do an amazing job) and it kept me dry through a 1200 mile ride through Scotland last week. However, the outer wets out and is a bugger to get dried and you can get cold with the wind-chill.

I'd therefore like to spend some dosh and get some new gear, but disappointed at the comments regarding the newer Rukka (Wukka) suits. Consideration has been given to Klim and I may still go that way, Held, or Revit. There's loads of good gear out there.

However, I'm really curious to see if there's anyone that has bought the Boreal suit from Touratwat? It's not the two-suit-in-one 'Worldwide' that Nick Sanders and others use, it's the 3-layer laminated Goretex jobbie. I can find few reviews of the Boreal and was wondering if anyone here has one? Not the cheapest, but if it's a good suit, I could get my money's worth out of it.

I'm not looking for the Holy-Grail of suits as it doesn't exist. If I was heading for Spain/ South of France, I'd actually get something like an RST Adventure which is a good value solution with loads of vents, or a BMW suit. But, I'm usually in the UK and in mixed weather....

Comments and abuse welcome (ish).

I have the Boreal suit. I've had it 18 months and it's great for our weather. Over 30 degrees it's struggling with only two vents on the front and two on the back but I don't use it abroad I'm lucky enough to have the worldwide one too which is mint in the heat.
I always ride with a base layer and never sweat in this suit. With the fleece inner it's great when it's cold too.
Very happy with mine and well recommended. :thumb2

Rukka triple layer goretex kit is 100% waterproof and as long as the outside is kept clean and sprayed the water balls up and rolls off meaning that the jacket never feels waterlogged BUT triple layer Rukka gear is far too warm and inadequately vented for summer use in the UK never mind Europe (once the temperature tops out over the low 20's you will overheat) .

I currently have an ARMA S jacket and the COSMIC jeans but the older Rukka gear I had which was cordura with a goretex lining was lighter and yes the outer would get wet but despite have less vents it was always cooler in warm weather

Good point Neil. There's no vents in my current (ageing) Rukka, but unless I'm sitting in traffic under the sun for the two days a year it gets into the mid-20s, I'm usually ok. Maybe the laminate stuff would be best used in Spring/ Autumn with a Cordura and drop-liner jacket for the summer. Cheers

Unless you are on a really extended trip (months long), I've always considered that a single suit isn't ever going to be a good workable solution. You will always be compromised by the suit doing one thing well and others not so well. It's far better, IMO, to have a selection of clothing that you can wear for expected weather for a particular trip - it also works out cheaper in my experience.

I've got good hot weather jacket & trousers, with an oversuit for rain - plus I have 'winter weather' which is thermally efficient and fully waterproof, but that I wouldn't wan't to wear if it was hot...

If you're on a RTW or similar then you'll need a 'one suit does all' solution - but not for everyday and holiday use...

If you look on www.louis.de they have some Rukka gear in the sale , one of the jackets the Paeijaenne is a vented adventure style jacket with a separate removable goretex liner and a separate cold weather liner .......... might be the answer

Thanks for the feedback folks. I appreciate there isn't really one-suit-does-all as has been discussed on here many time before. I think I'll take a run down to Gorey, Co. Wicklow and have a closer look at the Boreal at Touratech (Ireland). Cheers :thumb2

I believe that Stadler are the manufacturers, their clothing is available at Bikerland.de

Might be worth comparing prices if you decide to buy?
