If the bike is march '17 D-ESA onwards you can rebuild the shock but don't change the spring as it will alter the spring rate/damping ratio.

Definitely wouldn't want the bike any higher.

I think if you keep to std spring weight you should be fine.

Okay if you wish to stick with the standard shocks , but if you feel you want better the TT is the way to go , good to see that they rebuild now.

The TT shock for the Low chassis is a -50mm, I mentioned the extra 20mm height gain as most folk buy a lowered GS because of being shorter in the leg dept, an effective 20mm loss of leg length can make a big difference to us shorties. The gain of 20mm in height you get is because of the stronger spring TT reccomend, there is less static sag, this cannot be changed.
If you are happy with the spring rates of your std shock you can get the TT shock fitted with the same spring weight.

Being tall I never looked into the ins and outs of the lowered shocks as I run standard on a high seat . Lowering is best done to the minimum you can loose as you say as the shocks work better.
