Touratech F800GS test tour!

Since early Summer 2007 Touratech was doing R&D on the new F800GS in Africa.

So BMW obviously do leave stuff off deliberately so that TT can make it! Spose some of it could be seen as extra's over and above stock spec.... but some of it not IMO*. Maybe it's to help keep the intial purchase cost down....

Anyway, I see:

Pannier rails.
Front reservour protector. (Should be stock, or at least it should be positioned in a less vulnerable place in the first place)
Bash plate. (Definately should be stock)
Headlamp protector.
Bar risers (?).
There's also some sort of protector over that electronic whateveritis down on the right hand side.

Anyone spot anything else?




* I really shouldn't winge - there's a fair chance I'll end up with one next year regardless!

The TT one has got different mirrors too, but i'm guessing thats more of a preproduction thing rather than a TT product as they look pretty much the same as the 1200 mirrors....

BMW could not really supply the headlamp protector in any case. They are not legal for road use ... they throw up additional glare towards the rider himself, from the light reflecting back off the dust and mud on the protector. The more light you get reflected from close in sources, the more your pupils narrow and the less you can actually susequently see on the road. The only light from your headlights you are supposed to see is the light reflecting back from obstacles, road signs and the surface of the road. You are not supposed to ever see your own light either directly or reflected from your own vehicle

Touratech sell light guards with "Off road use only" written all over them and the website.

So BMW could never fit those as standard.

The only thing I think should be standard is a decent bashplate. Maybe add in the radiator grille too actually. Those 2 things are clearly Touratech aftermarket stuff

I see TT have already found a way of increasing the fuel capacity. Doesn`t look quite right though, maybe its the 1st prototype

Its low down and reasonably positioned in line with the rear suspension ... Any other position may look neater but to be honest thats about as ideal a place for it as anything

Long way Africa GS800!! MCN

Check out MCN today there a nice article re the GS800 on a 4 month trip through africa unsupported!! Looks good and muddy and went like a dream apparently.a husband and wife team him on the gs her on a X challenge 650,Her shock broke only to find it was a mock up shock for a BMW shootFixed with branches and rachet straps!!
