Has anybody already got or even seen the new radiator covers/ protectors from Touratech ?
Not too sure if they are a gimmic, or a practical addition ?
Also does any other manufacturer make similar guards ?

Cheers

I have them on mine.:thumb No overheating issues, and they are quite subtle, in black.:beerjug:

I've got the Cymarc guards on mine and after 2500mls and looking at the crap that's been caught in them I'm glad I have.

30 degrees in Paris a week last Wednesday, spent over an hour getting out of the city no overheating problems, just 1st -2nd gearchange :tears
But I don't think the rad guards had anything to do with that :D

They look great. Do IKEA do the instructions for the conversion?

Vielen dank Paul.

No, no Ikea instruction but you can come and walk round my house looking at all the other things I've made...... But if you miss the guards you'll need to go back to the start......

That is a fantastic idea. Would you please be able to explain where did you get the frame from? Or how did you make it?

Thank you

Hahaha..... It was some steel strip edging I'd had garage for probably....25 years ! (Think I had it to weld up some door panels on a VW beetle...but that's another story!).

Had a quick look online and you can buy it at steel stockists such as -

http://www.campsteel.co.uk/products/mesh-flooring/edging-strips/

I simply cut the edging, with 45 degree mitred corners, to make the frame 140x210 mm. Brazed the corners on one long side and the short edges. Cut the mesh to size and inserted, then fitted the other long edge and brazed the two corners, cut out the tabs that mate with the mounting point on the bottom of the rads and brazed that on.

I needed to trim down the plastic shrouds of each rad just so the guards slid in but that's easy.

Sprayed the guards - satin black... And fitted!

Oh and the bin came from Homebase!! Should have been £7.50 but I waited 'till they had a 10% off day so it was £6.75 !!!! :thumb

Cost me less than a tenner!

Or you could try Mr Hootons or .. http://www.motorcycleparts-hornig.com/BMW-R-1200-GS-LC/Alu-High-grade-Steel/Cooler-protection.html

Which does nothing to answer the OP's two key questions.

Of particular importance, is the first one.

I checked my temp before and after fitting and could not see any real
difference.

As for protection, well each to there own but I for one think BMW should have fitted a guard from day 1!

O/s reply, very complete thank you.

I don't see myself making the frame I think, just not enough time in my life :-( and in fairness not skilful enough either. Hopefully your reply will be useful to others Im sure of that
