The standard mount does have the look/feel to give you confidence but is a really safe mount IMHO. I have done 4 over-a-week long off road trips with it and countless weekend off road rides and it's never come off. Yes you need to ensure you've put it in right, and I won't leave the 660 in the mount when I can't see the bike, but it has served me very well.

If someone gave be a locking Touratech mount I've love it, but I'll spend the money of tyres / petrol instead :)

cheers

ok here goes my suggestion , both units are a secure way of protecting the 660 and both work slightly differently.

v1 is good and does the job.

v2 is an evolution of v1 and does the same job better.

the price does make a difference so if your looking at a tighter budget buy v1 .
if you can go the extra buy v2 (i have this one and imho its the best of the two)

remember they are designed to prevent the opportunist scrote wandering off with your prized gps . not the determined tooled up scrote.. so dont leave it on overnight unless the bike is locked away.:thumb

Bear in mind that if you go for the V2, and mount it close to the screen, you may need to mount the unit forward a little so it doesn't fowl the screen when in the open position.

Just fitted the v2 and a loverly bit of kit it is - only one gripe, the brackets for fitting AINT BIG ENOUGH for the 12mm bar and deffo wont fit on the handlebars :thumb2

I had to bend them around a socket and then bolt them together - trouble then means that the BOLTS AINT LONG ENOUGH so come on TT get your act together :blast

if your fitting it to an adventure screen bar then that upper bar is 15mm ish so they dont fit and it will be far too close to the screen.

i do believe joybringer is offering the solution..:thumb

Just a std GS but with the BMW Sat Nav bar fitted that is 12mm :thumb2

I have the V2 mount on my GSA and it is mounted on a Migsel mount. It looks very OEM and the colour matches the bar quite well.
I went for the silver Touratech mount, because I believe it matches the silver bars around the screen a lot better. Plus when you ride without your 660, you don't wanna have that harsh black metal right in front of your face all the time. That's my opinion anyway, and it's not that important after all...:D

Cant tell you which ones better but I have version 2 and I have had it on a GS and now on an RT - Had no problems and it is a well engineered bit of kit. Only any good for keeping SATNAV in situ while say paying for petrol or having a drink in front of a cafe but for someone with a spare 5 mins and a want for your SATNAV it will not stop a determined thief.

Well after making the V2 brackets fit the BMW bar, the bolts were not quite long enough and only just got a thread which ment I could not get enough thread to engage the nylock.

I could have used longer bolts but they are countersunk with a flat smooth head with a square at the top of the thread to stop them turning in the bracket when tightening the nuts up. Also, a bolt with a deeper head would foul the workings of the V2.

So, what to do - having looked at an alternate thread I noticed BMW do a mounting bracket - part number 71 60 7 713 903 that is a retro fit holder for the BMW 660 mount that not only fits well but lifts the unit by about 11/2 inches meaning I can now see the rev counter for £37 but only £32 after discount :thumb

Job sorted and the bracket looks like this although I have removed the quick release part and replaced it with a nut and bolt;
