I'm 6' 5" and getting fed up with the low frequency wind noise on my 12GSA.

If I duck my head down about 4" the world goes quiet and peaceful but this wrecks my back so isn't a solution.

Browsing t'internet for answers I spotted the Touratech screen extender made for the GSA..........

Has anyone tried one of these?

Did it make an appreciable difference?

Did it damage the screen in any way (e.g cracking it)?

Grateful for any info before splashing out;)

I love mine.

I find that with the spoiler installed I can ride with my visor up at more or less any speed I wish to go without lots of wind in my eyes. Plus its a lot quieter.

Just like with any screen there is a handling difference when its installed, but to be honest its fine. (Have you noticed the difference just by moving the OEM screen down into the low position?)

There has been no damage to the screen as result of using it. The latching mechanism has rubber tips so it attaches firmly but gently. There is a hard part in the touratech catalogue that is supposed to strenghten the main screen that you might want to consider if you are concerned about additional forces. By the way go for the non locking one. I dont think it would occurr to a passer by that they could easily remove it and I think that the lock just draws attention to its removability and adds bulk and cost.

I love this addon and wouldnt go touring without it.

P.S. I'll be up in lancaster in a few weeks if you want to take a look it, but TBH you should just go ahead and buy it.

As with Geoff, I wouldn`t be without my screen extender to the point where I wouldn`t ride it anywhere without the extender.

Visor up at any speed but still get rain/flies etc on the visor. Previously, the windblast would be at my eye level.

I`ve dropped the screen down 2 notches and now with the extender there is no buffeting or noise....lovely! It`s definately the best thing I`ve bought for it. Dark Horse tried it for a day on Steptoe`s Mad Moroccan Dash and it really worked so he has probably got one by now.

Also, I`ve not strengthened the screen on my 1200 GS-A and had no problems in 8000 miles. I bought it from my buddy who didn`t strengthen his standard 1200 screen and it did crack it!

Chris, Geoff, many thanks for the info. You have convinced me enough to give it a try.

Cheers:)

I use one of these on my GS1200 for long trips - it really does make a difference (improvement) but I still get some buffeting at speed. Good luck with the ebay bid! I did use the Touratech special parts for strengthening the screen and so far no problems.

Touratech Screen Extender for GSA

It's my extender for sale, I have done the mod on the adjusters (cut off the lugs) and this has reduced the buffeting by a massive amount, I found by doing this I do not need to have the externder on as well.

I'm 5ft10 so it may be more effective for the less vertically challenged.

I Had one of these fitted on my GSA and found they worked really well-BUT, they do stain/discolour alot easier than the screen and I found great problems when I had to filter through traffic, especially when the sun was out as I could not see through it very well. I ended up peering over the damn thing-back ache..

DWJ, the extender arrived safely, thanks for getting it to me asap. I've tried it and I'm amazed at the difference. Like the other lads said, I can ride up to about 85 with the visor up and its massively quieter than before.

If anyone out there is getting fed up with the buffetting / wind noise on their 12GSA I can really recommend getting one of these:thumb

Whats the mod?:nenau

I agree

I did the screen notch mod first (cut the plastic from the centre guide to get an extra notch on the ratchet) but wasn't enough then added the extender and was a very happy bunny and it didn't effect the pillion ride either.

Just got a low Sargent seat and have moved the screen back one notch. All working OK without the stronger hard parts. (I'm 5ft 10in with 32in inside leg).

Bin the screen extender

Had the extender fitted on a trip to italy in may even with hard part fitted screen moved about so much it cracked now fitted givi screen 100mm wider 145mm taller fits easy on original mounts £94 inc postage from wotoworks

Picked up my GSA last Friday :D . Being a vertically challenged 5'8", one of my biggest concerns was that I was too short and wouldn't be able to get my feet down sufficiently. However in this respect things have not been as bad as I feared (the two occasions on which I've dropped it  so far have been due to other reasons). My biggest problem is wind noise - just like Terzikat:

I've got the screen at max. height. Seat is on lowest setting, and anyway has been modified to make it even lower, by removing some of the foam. I can't believe that the screen is designed such that even short-arses like me get wind blast (then again, maybe it was designed by the same people who came up with the indicator switch arrangement :mcgun)

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Dave

Dave,
I also picked up my new GS adventure a couple of weeks ago and like you was very disppointed with the wind noise and buffeting. Having read this thread I got the touratech extender and tried it for the first time last night. To say it makes a difference is an understatement. It's like night and day. This is probably one of the few add ons I've bought that really works for me. I'm 5'11'' and it's just below my line of sight. I did'nt buy the hard part, I'm hoping that the extra brace on the GSA screen will prevent cracking.

Screen adjustment

Dave

You`ll soon get used to the indicators. They become natural after a few years...:blast

Try all the settings on the screen. I`m 6ft and have a screen extenter but I`ve dropped the screen by two notches and it`s near perfect.

I would suggest that next time you are out, drop the screen a notch at a time and see what happens to the noise, buffeting etc. A pal of mine has the screen on it`s lowest setting (i.e leaning right back) and it`s perfect for him.

Let us know:D

Did the screen notch mod and also slotted out the adjustment slot a fair bit more (higher) as there is still space to go higher. I get two notches higher. I then fitted the Wunderlich screen adjusters for the centre mounts and am now very happy with the results.

Sounds like you have the answer to my wind problem!! what model Givi screen did you fit to your GS1200, and would it fit an 07 model

Have tried lowering the screen - the lower it goes, the worse the problem becomes in that the wind blast moves down as well.

"wotoworks" - being new to the wonderful world of GS's, is there something I'm missing here? Do you have a part number for the Givi screen?

Thanks

Dave

I was sceptical of how effective this screen extender would be, but reading the encouraging reports in this thread made me take the plunge and try it out. I have fitted the Adventure screen and winglets to my GS and although the protection is good, the wind noise was appalling. The Touratech extender has changed all that! The wind noise has dropped dramatically to the point where I can cruise at 70-80mph without ear plugs. They were essential prior to fitting the extender. I can also ride with the visor up at the same speeds with no buffeting at all.

I now (at long last) have the ideal screen set up:)
